How To Bid On Free Agents:
Bidding on free agents is done through the message board. All free agents are broken into the specific category of free agent that they fall under. Before free agency starts all of your players will be moved to your pro roster, and all of your players who are under contract will have their salaries totaled, thus equaling your current team payroll. This will then be subtracted from the current league salary cap for the upcoming season, thus establishing your available money to spend during free agency
Your available money will be posted in the appropriate section on the message board and will be updated nightly (NOT live) to account for the current bids you have on the board. It is up to YOU to keep track of have much you have availabe against how much you have out in bids when bidding during the day. Again like I said, nightly we will go through all of the free agents and eliminate all but the current highest bid and update your available money. However, during each day of free agency it is up to YOU to know where you started with available money and how much you have left to bid
If you have placed a bid on a player during the day, only to have that offer outbid, then you once again have that money to spend, but YOU must keep track of that!
Here are some examples:
Example 1:
You start the day with $15,000,000 available to you. You place a bid of 5mil on player A, a bid of 5mil on player B, a bid of 2mil on player C, you now have 3mil left to make bids with
If another team then places a higher bid on player A then you have that money back and now have 8mil left to make bids
Example 2:
You start the day with $15,000,000 available to you. You place a bid of 5mil on player A, a bid of 5mil on player B, a bid of 7mil on player C, you now have gone 2mil OVER your available limit. If we notice this at the end of the day when free agency closes, your bid will be removed, the money put back into your account, and the previous high bidder (before you made your illegal bid) will become the current high bidder
-------------------------------------------------------------
You are NOT allowed to edit your bids. If we find a bid to have been edited then it will be INVALID. If you made a typo or a slight mistake then you must alert either "Hawks" or "AvsGM" on the Msg Board
You are NOT allowed to delete and bids you have made. If we see that you have deleted a bid then you will no longer be eligible to bid any further on that player
After the initial bid on a player, if the player goes an entire day without a new bid he will then go "Pending" (denoted as $Player Name$), if he then goes an entire second day without a bid he will then be "Closed"
The minimum raise when bidding on a player is $100k
To bid on a player that is set to close that day (marked as $) you must make a minimum raise of $250k (first bid only)
To bid on a player that is set to close that day (marked as $) AND you have NOT previously bid on that player then you must make a minimum raise of $500k (first bid only)
If the player was a UFA he will be awarded to the highest bidder
If the player was a RFA he will either be re-signed by his original team, or the original GM will decide to take the compensation package
---------------------------------------------------------------
More Explanations:
When a bid is placed on a player, that player will become signed after 2 days of no bidding have gone by. The day after that bid if no new bids have been placed, two "$" symbols will be placed within the title of the player at the beginning and end of the title. At the end of the day following that, (again, if there are no new bids) the player is then signed to the winning team. When there is a new bid placed during that time, the timer starts all over again.
For Example:
Day 1: Bid is placed C - Nik Antropov - 77OV (Cgy)
Day 2: No new bids $C - Nik Antropov - 77OV (Cgy)$
Day 3: No new bids Player is signed and deleted from the free agency board.
After 2 weeks have past any players still open after that time will continue to remain open until bidding has finished on those players. (Open meaning still being bid on)
Any players not signed or open after 2 weeks will be moved to the unassigned players listing and may be claimed later at no less than 75% of their former salary.
Bid are simply placed by listing the player name, salary, and years offered inside the players specific thread. All bids will be assumed "Per year". The minimum amount you may raise on a bid is $100,000.
Bid Example:
Nik Antropov - 4 years at $1,720,000 per year
There will be a post setup containing your available salary taking into account any bids you are currently winning and will be updated nightly.
Be sure to check this page before you place any bids, any bids found to be over salary limit will be invalid. Feel free to take it upon yourself to see if your competition is bidding over what he has available. Remember that since it is not updated on the fly (sorry, I work, lol) that if you are outbid on a player, that money returns to you right away and can be spent.
This below is from last year when we had an overbidding problem, and this is the solution:
Lemme explain this a bit. Basically we had what I refer to a cascade failure in the bidding tonight. One person overbid...fairly early, which in turn caused someone to think they had they money back, and spend it. The next highest bid can't currently afford it, normally this would mean I would remove older bids until he COULD afford it. But, the person made about...oh, 10+ bids after that time frame. Basically this one mistake could change the bids of probably half the league completely.
So, to remove the headache from me, and yourselfs.
New Rule: If a team is found to have overbid, it will revert the next highest bid that can afford that player AFTER the end of the nights bidding. This could technically go as far back as NO bids, and so be it if that happens. If that does happen, the counter is reset to "starting point" with a minimum salary of the previous last highest bid.
Enjoy, and please watch your bidding.
