Pretty crazy, Jon landed McCabe and Whitney for $500,000 each!

Pretty crazy, Jon landed McCabe and Whitney for $500,000 each! McCabe I wasn't too surprised about, he still needs to find a team. Whitney I was pretty much shocked, easily the steal of free agency

The only teams with money are the Jets(rfa's to sign) and TB, everyone else is pretty tapped. Without the use of the farm - we can look for very little bidding on unassigned players till the season starts and we can farm off some salary.

I'm also surprised the goalies aren't getting more bids in general. I'm a bit concerned we still have a few GMs that have yet to place a bid. I was out of town with no internet so that is why I have yet to place a bid. Plus all FA seems to do is kill cap for future years so I am not that eager to overpay medicore players for a team that isn't close to winning anything.

Meanwhile I got Marco Sturm for 500K... I feel ripped off now!
But still I'm pretty happy getting Sturm. Hopefully he can stay healthy this season and be a solid 3rd liner for me next season.
I decided to take a small risk on Savard. I doubt it will pay off, but it was worth a try. Three years is a long time.

Well, it looks like my hopes of signing a backup goalie are gone.
Guess Timmy will just have to shoulder most of the workload this year.

The past few years in this league backups have only played 5-10 games... and a few starters play every game.
Still happy I got Turco as a rental for the year though.

This free agency has really put a couple of teams over the bump, from being a playoff team to being a top team in their respective conference.
The Blues are one team in the west that really stand out after landing Briere. Good star power and SC ratings with Carter, Backes, and Briere. Some secondary offense with Erat, Jones, and Pacioretty. Pretty solid D. Price is one of the best goalies in the league too.
In the east, Florida may make some strides if they can land a starting goalie, which will not be easy. Florida has the makings of a pretty deadly first line with Toews at center and newly signed Iginla. On D, Florida is pretty similar to the Blues actually. A couple of offensive D and a stay at home type. Really needs a goalie though. Potentially Kiprusoff?

St. Louis is looking really strong and still has bids out for more players. Nashville is another team that has transformed itself nicely, has a pretty nice top 4 D squad and has some money out on the board. Calgary is still strong but not like they were, but landing Visnovsky would be a huge help. On the other side I really like what the Rangers have been able to do with their team, especially if and/or when they sign Marleau. And I still need a goalie! Very interested to see how it all plays out.
