This has definitely been a slow year on the trade front. We usually have some big ones swung, but everybody looooooves their players these days don't you. I've sent so many trade PMs in the last 6 months and nobody wanted to deal so I pretty much just gave up. I think everyone (annoyingly) knows what I've been looking for and I figure at this point if they want to deal they'll hit me up

It's done but am I missing something with Ferland? Had the guy and he was nothing more than a glorified grinder that can jump on a scoring line here and there. Is there an upside that I'm not aware of? He's an intriguing lad. - had some off ice issues; with help of Brian McGrattan got back on track - has wicked shot - definitely has some skill - pegged as RW on Flames top line with Johnny & Mony (I'm not convinced he'll remain there all year long) - might actually be better suited to bottom 6 role to provide physicality and chip in with some scoring... I am pretty happy with that deal 44 gp 19 g 10 assists,

No one seems to wanna part with a young top 6 forward, for a young top 6 forward.Sometimes one may just be looking for a chemistry change, which is my intention. I can get decent picks and prospects, if I decide to rebuild, but not ready to throw in the towel just yet as long as I'm still in the hunt for a playoff spot.

Re: Ferland, I was wrong and clearly was missing something lol. Damnit Micheal, shoulda kept you back in the day just based on the fact you spell your name with an EA. But yes, he's definitely been rock solid, along with the rest of the Flames. Leafs on the other hand, can't keep a goddamn lead or score more than 2 goals a game these days.

I think the intelligence in this league has gone up as well... there were some guys that came in historically and tried to prove that they knew what they were doing by making a few big moves, but hurting their teams in the long run.. I think guys either have more long term plans.. but I also think because a lot of teams are still competitive and int he playoff race.. not many teams are deciding to sell as of yet, and some teams that are contenders are trying to figure out how good their team actually is before pushing their chips in the middle of the table.

With how he is playing in Dallas right now 10 mil is probably in his JGHL future.

A lot of moving pieces in the Islanders/Flames trade. Will anyone be able to beat Chris and Calgary now?

A lot of moving pieces in the Islanders/Flames trade. Will anyone be able to beat Chris and Calgary now? Possibly, but it'll be tough. There's definitely some strong/sleeper teams like the Blues, Canucks, Devils, Avs, Preds, Bruins (can't discount the champs).. but IMO it comes down to D&G, and right now no one has it better than Flames' all around top 6 and Bob. Add O'Reilly's DF and FO ratings to the mix, and it's gonna be awfully tough to score goals on that roster. That is of course not counting potential moves the other contenders could make. The trade market should be ripe this season, so it's not impossible for someone to add 3-4 good pieces and up their chances, assuming they already have a goalie in the 82-85 range.

I think it's a great trade for both teams. Lot's of good young talent headed back to the Islanders. On the Flames end O'Reilly is a very valuable center for his DF and FO ratings alone. McDonagh is a big upgrade over OEL. OEL is a great NHL player, but he never seems to put up the numbers to end up with good ratings.
