Hey guys, first let me apologize for the lack of updates. Things have been a bit crazy for me lately and I wanted to take some time off to reflect before I made this announcement.
Unfortunately after 18-years I've decided that I don't really have it in me anymore to run the league. This is something I've been seriously contemplating for the last 3-4 seasons, and honestly the only reason this decision didn't come sooner is because of the weight it carries knowing that my decision directly impacts 25 other people.
I was really hoping that a little break would change my mind, and there is nothing I wanted more than to get motivated to keep things going, unfortunately it just never happened. I really wish I had some big elaborate reason behind the decision, but really I just have no desire to do it anymore, I don't know how else to say it.
From the bottom of my heart I sincerely can't thank each and everyone one of you enough for all that you have put into the league. Whether you have been here from the start or only for a season or two, I genuinely appreciate everything that everyone has contributed over the last 18-years!
Please trust me when I say that this was not even close to being an easy decision. I probably wrote and re-wrote this post at least 5 times, not to mention all the times I was going to post and then decided against it because I was really hoping something would change in my mind, but unfortunately the time has come.
If anyone wanted to take over the league and run it themselves I would not be opposed to that at all. However there is no way to sugarcoat how much time, energy and commitment that would be needed to be put in. The offseason tasks alone from start to finish probably require about 10-15 hours of work, at an absolute bare minimum.
You would also need to be familiar with excel to gather stats for the ratings, html coding to update the website and know how to use an ftp transfer program, knowledge of photoshop if you wanted to continue with divisional banners and trophies for clubhouses, learning the ins-and-outs of the sim, purchase hosting and takeover the league domain. There is so much more and a lot more day-to-day tasks involved, but that is just quickly off the top of my head. But if someone wanted to try then I would gladly supply the sim program and all files etc. that would be needed.
Again I sincerely thank you all for the time and dedication you've put into the league over the last 18-years, it's been awesome!!! Thank you to each and every single one of you!!!

Totally understand Jon. I’ve run a long time pool before and it was a handful even without the sim function. Totally appreciate the dedication you’ve put into this during my short run. I’d stay if someone takes the monster on but if this is the end I totally loved the stay. Everyone’s help getting up to speed, especially you and Chris. Take care and keep our emails on file because we need some tattoo pics!! Cheers

I for one, being only a newer member, have appreciated all the work you have done. Thank you Jon! Maybe if someone decides to take this over that the workload could maybe be split up into the sections your said. I'm not familiar with HTML coding or photoshop ( not a techy at all lol ) or I would try.

It has been great being part of the league and I really appreciate you, and those that help, do. It has been a great distraction for real life and when I think back to how different my life was when it all started it is amazing to think how long we have been doing this.
I hope you enjoy the added free time you have and if you ever decide to get back into it and are looking for GM's let me know!
If there is any thought of others taking over and something that I can do that is fairly low tech I would certainly be willing to pitch where I can with my very limited technical abilities.
To everyone else who has been part of this league it has been great getting to know you and interacting with you all. We have had a few ups and downs with GM's but for the vast majority of the people involved they have all been great and made this league what it was.
Thanks again Jon for all you have done.

As a day 1 member this is definitely bitter sweet but I totally understand Jon. If a hobby turns into a full time job it can lose its luster. Thank you for everything you put into this - it brought hours of joy and dragged me out of some bad head spaces in the past. I can only give gratitude as 18 years is a hell of a long time for the runtime of anything, and happens to be half my life lol. Way to go out as champion like you came in!

Way to go out as champion like you came in! ah man, this is definitely tough news to read, but just as Eug summed up nicely above, I totally get it. Similar thing for me was when I was hard core into the sportswriting stuff (many of you gave me the courage to start in the first place!) and I continued to do it for about 7 yrs or more, even taking it to a level I didn't think I'd get to (press pass for World Juniors, NHL outdoor game, Calgary Hitmen, etc, etc) and having forged quite a few cool relationships, the last couple of yrs doing it, it really felt more of a job than a joy. I finally had to make the difficult decision to pull the plug. I recently tried to revamp it a wee bit as a bit of a side project, but not even sure how long that will last. Anyway, enough about me - cannot thank you enough Jon for putting in all the work you have over the years. I've met some amazing GMs/people here as well and hope that many of us find a way to keep in touch. Yes, hockey is first around here, but with some of you, the relationships go beyond that as we share personal wins and struggles. As much as I'm tech curious, I'm not technically capable of running the league...would definitely be on board as a super active GM (and a sharer of NHL draft and prospect info!) if anyone decides to take the torch. Thanks for everything, Commish/Champ! (If I couldn't win the last Cup awarded, at least I got defeated by the Champ in the conference finals.) I'll add that it's extra tough news, as a fantasy sports junkie, this is actually one of the last couple of leagues I've hung onto as a committment. Stay cool, everyone. PS F*ck - that moment when you realize you'll never likely get to see Zegras, Kaprizov, and Shesterkin suit up in the JGHL Flames uniforms!!! ; ) PPS If no one does take over the league and you want a novel way to stay connected, again I'll offer up hanging out with me at Upside Hockey. Serious, confident many of you more than capable of writing up a prospect profile, a rating of your NHL fav team's current prospect pool, etc. I'd edit. Anyway, now that you'll likely have more time on your hands, thought I'd toss that out there. Be easy-going way to stay in touch.

Thanks for all the incredible work over the last 18 years Jon. I've been around for 15 of those years and it's been an awesome experience. I can't imagine any league being run better than this one. Your shoes will be impossible to fill. That said I would love to have the league continue. I am okay with Excel, but haven't had much experience with updating websites. If we can find a way to keep it going I would be willing to help out in any way possible. Thanks again for running the best sim hockey league on the planet! Jon, Thank you for doing this for so long! I have been waiting for last few years for you to write this message to us, but you kept on going. 18 years in same league is amazing, there is noting I have done for 18 years or more other been sober for almost 35 years. You, Gavin and other guys who came in and helped in so many ways did an amazing job and really in 18 years we really never had any big problems and that is due to leadership and the amazing people you recruited for league. I started on Jan 22nd in 2004 and I was 46 now I can reverse that number to 64. I virtually watch guys grow up form teens to young men and met some and made friends with some amazing people and hope to stayed connected. My email is rongiovanni@gmail.com if you want to stay connected guys! Reach out anytime! Wish you good luck in all you do pal and good luck to everyone else in this amazing league and amazing people! Jon, thanks for all that you did man. Seriously this league was one of the best sims I have ever participated in it. I don't blame you for being burnt out, honestly running a league like this with this size seems like it needs to be a team effort from a group of people, but we know that you did a ton of work to keep it going, even in the latter years. I would be open to discussing taking over, I use excel every day for work, did HTML coding for our intranet at my last position so am familiar with that, photoshop memes etc. However, with the amount of inactive GMs in the league I definitely think it could be worth starting over with a redraft at this point if we had enough people who would be interested.

I agree with everything everyone has said. I loved participating in this league and it was a blast. I completely understand being worn out by all the work and If I had any technical skills I'd help out but unfortunately I'm useless lol.
If anyone does take over I'm game to stick around. I hope to keep in touch with everyone. Whether is hockey or any other reason, and last but not least Thank you Jon.

I also agree with everything that has been said. Thank you so much Jon for everything you have done for this league. It's been an amazing experience and I have really enjoyed being a part of it each season.
I would also like to see the league continue if possible and can help with Excel files if needed.

Wow.. I've been here for I believe 16 years and I think Eug summed it up perfectly.. it was joy, it was heartbreaking but it always gave me an escape as well. Thank you for everything Jon, I know this wasn't easy... and thanks to Gavin and Jake for their contributions as well. I can tell you I hadn't personally been as engaged as i had been before because of life's challenges and further committments but I was watching along and was going to gain more excitement with watching my prospects come to fruition and hopefully build the right way. I completely understand Jon and like Eug said..once this became a job, it loses it's lustre for you.
If anyone does take over, I'd also be happy to stick around. It will definitely feel weird without the JGHL if that is the case, but this will always be a fond part of my life.
Thank you to all the GM's as well that I've had the pleasure of dealing with along the 16 years.. we have a great bunch of guys here and crazy to know it was all built around hockey.

I read this almost as soon as it was posted and just needed to let it absorb. It is hard to believe that we won’t be going through the usual off season and excitement of a new season for the first time in 18 years.
I am amazed the league has lasted this long, and the fact that it has is really a testament to how hard working and dedicated you are Jon. To state the obvious, none of this could have happened without you. You didn’t just stick with it, you made this the best fantasy league I have ever been in year after year. I can’t thank you enough for that.
I am sad about the decision, but completely understand. I wish I could take over, but I don’t have the skill set to do it and I don’t think I’d be able to be nearly as reliable/steady as Jon was.
Thank you Jon, and everyone of you who have been so dedicated to this league. We all grew together and spent a significant portion of our lives here. I’ll miss everyone… if anyone starts a fantasy league you know where to find me! For anyone that wants to stay in touch Instagram would probably be best… my user name is Jake_graas. My email is jagraas@gmail.com.

Also, if anyone can take over, I’d be happy to continue doing ratings and even helping with other non-tech things such as off season free agency etc.
