i dont feel the same Chris. Theres enough homework to do with a full redraft as it is. Then to do all the homework on prospects and decide where the value is while mixed in with regular players? My fat little brain will not compute

If adding drafted prospects is wanted, I am game to add. But I would like to still keep the first draft at a manageable time frame. Would a fair comprise be each team is required to fill their teams to 40 players including drafted prospects up to: Minimum: 5 Maximum: 10 This way teams that would want to focus on trying to draft younger can draft 10 prospects and everyone has to add at least 5 to just keep it fair. Then we can do the unrated draft with every drafted prospects left available. I'm ok with the compromise, but I also don't think it should be mandatory to draft 5 unrated prospects. If a GM wanted to wait for the prospect draft that should be completely up to them.

The sheer amount of players could have that running for weeks. I think this may be a thing managers will have to sacrifice on for the sake of getting the league rolling.

Ah, I think Jon is simply proposing not to have a minimal # of non-rated prospects one must draft (plus, there will be a lot of rated younger players/prospects, keep in mind)
For the reasons Hunter stated to get things running sooner than later, an initial cap of 10 prospects to draft is quite reasonable.

Hunters "Plan" was to run them separate. The compromise was the mix with limits.

Simple misunderstanding. All I'm saying is that in my opinion, if we aren't going to set a minimum then I don't see a need to complicate things and mix the drafts even a bit. Just do the two. Again I understand the want for flexibility but in terms of setup and also not slowing down the start time. I think keeping them separately is the way to go. There is nothing stopping a manager from getting the prospects they want if it's separate so all mixing it really does is let them pick them earlier.

I like the compromise as I'd like to be able to select unrated prospects in the initial draft, and I don't mind the 10 prospects max. I just don't understand why you'd "force" a GM to draft a minimum of 5 unrated prospects if they didn't want to, that's all.

I am going to Echo Chris here and say, let’s just do whatever Hunter wants so we can get this thing going.
if we do end up having separate drafts, I did come up with an idea. Both drafts should be snake drafts and the order of one should be the reverse of the other.
I also wasn’t kidding when I said I would do a video draft lottery. We do these in my fantasy football league and they’re always fun to watch.
If anyone else is in Toronto we could get together and do it

if we can get started on draft soon we can get initial draft done before Chris heads on his trip and complete second after hes home

Given I'm in danger of not being able to partake in the redraft given the timeline, tossing this out here after conversation with another GM. (But don't hinge everything on me either. Just given we're going to be likely using rosters from a redraft for quite some time, not sure I'm content with sitting with a roster that I'm unlikely able to draft not compile a very good draft list for. I could still keep in contact with you guys in the event Hunter decides to an expansion team at some point.)
Alternative Funky Idea: - might be more efficient and be just as much fun. - Instead of drafting players in what I'm sure would be a long, work-intensive process for everyone, what if we drafted NHL team rosters? - e.g. If I drafted the Calgary Flames, they would become my Quebec Nordiques. - We would do a draft lottery and pick entire organizations. - The GM would get all the players and prospects from that team. Then if we had 24 or so GMs, we could have a shorter dispersal draft to divide up the players and prospects from the 8 or so remaining teams. - The order of the dispersal draft would be the opposite of the team draft.
My Additional Twist (note: the other GM I chatted with prefers to have all teams available - he came up with above super intriguing option) -what might make this option more attractive is to have some of the top NHL stacked teams unavailable so that still a nice pool of stars available for dispersal draft - i.e. Avs, Bolts, Panthers, Oilers (just to have McDavid, Draisaitl up for grabs), Panthers, maybe Leafs/NYR, etc - I'd probably also have the Coyotes as unavailable given their awful state - Just thinking ahead possibly to the remaining teams not drafted. If there's not a ton of really desirable players left to draft for the dispersal draft - This would make both the franchise selection draft and the subsequent dispersal draft quite intriguing
Not sure if Hunter even wants to go about it this way, so no worries if not Hunter, just throwing this out there.
Thoughts?

While if we didn't restrict which teams could be drafted there would still be desirable players/prospects left to draft undoubtedly, there's the potential for not a lot of star power.
With restricting teams a noted above, for the dispersal draft, there'd be lots of the best NHL talent to go around - for example: McDavid, Draisaitl, Makar, MacKinnon, Rantanen, Landeskog, Barkov, M Tkachuk, Ekblad, Stamkos, Vasilevskiy, Kucherov, Hedman, Point, Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Aho + other guys from deep Canes team, etc
