Obviously the rule has always been that unless passed the trade deadline a player is immediately removed from their team. However I was wondering what you guys thought about making a one time exception for Jason Smith on the Rangers? I don't want to give them too much "special treatment" but just wanted to get some thoughts on this.

Well it is a risk when you have older players, however you know, since day one, I personally thought, they should not be removed, as long as they played last season, til the end of this season. I think we can make an exception here, given the team he was given and the work he is puttin in over his predecessors.

I'm fine with it.
I think we should consider changing the rule to losing retired players the following season anyway.

wow! you know I agree!! I really appreciate this and was NOT expecting it!!!!! Thanks guys!!!!!! about the rule....... I was, really bummed when I got the news and I do actually agree with Philly here, since we do play a year behind and the players already have their ratings I think the retired player should finish out the year. I would assume in the NHL the rumor mill gets going and I'm sure the players tell someone they are considering retirement. and when we trade here if WE knew those things it would affect trading and what deals are made.

Not sure why we are making a one time exception but I don't really care if a team gets to keep Jason Smith. So go ahead and let him have him.

I see no harm in it for one season, especially seeing the uphill climb the Rangers have been doing with that team. Can't pull the rug out on him like that.

honestly, lets give him to NYR, but we shoudl probably just change the rule anyway. Great gming aside, i dont think it makes sense to do a one time exception either.
