Yes Folks, Sunshine Hockey is back!!
After an exciting last day of heroics, the Florida Panthers made the playoffs with 93 points, barely squeezing out the Toronto Maple Leafs for 8th place, to take the Pittsburgh Penguins to a gruelling 7 game quarter final series. Of course, holding the Pittsburgh Penguins on the brink of elimination, the Panthers were eliminated in the Iglooo at the sad site of game 7. "We were happy to get in at the time, and I think know... we expect success," GM Singh said. The Panthers boast a new and exciting lineup of skilled, offensive forwards, as well as a new look goaltending tandem, the third in three years.
"A lot of people think we've abandoned our sights of rebuilding, because we've dealt picks and some our high prospects to cover areas we needed and more experience players. But if you look at the guys we've gotten, they've filled holes and they're still young," Singh added. "We're trying to maintain winning seasons in Florida. Our goal is to contend for the division title, but we will also continue to build for the future."
Some of the newest acquisitions include Bryzgalov, Morrow, Drury, Ryder and of course.... all star Jerome Iginla.
"I'm thrilled to be here," Jerome smiled. "I think we've got an exciting group of guys and I think that we have a great shot at being up there with the big boys in the East.. It should be a lot of fun."
Of course, the knock against the Florida Panthers is already the sight of their very offensively minded defense. The blue line consists of a lot of defenseman who carry the puck, take risks and often shy away from the physical play.
"We're not too worried," Kevin Singh said. "We are confident with playing a very offensive style... and if we have to make adjustments we will. We have assets that we can deal in order to get a few guys to come in here and play hard nosed defense if need be.. we can always acquire a few guys." The Penalty kill is what might do the Panthers in...but only time will tell..
Projected Opening Roster:
Morrow - Toews - Iginla
Kariya - Drury - Boyes
Johnson - Marchant - Ryder
May - Primeau - Orr
Kubina - Letang
Daley - Bergeron
Van Ryn - Lukowich
