No offense to Eddie, but Lidstrom? really?! Sure he had the most points...but he was minus 13. He also had the fewest goals of any on the list. As well, according to www.jghl.net/norris.html of all defenseman, he was rated 14th. I'm a bit perplexed. Maybe it was an effort to spread the wealth a bit as far as the trophies go...which is not what its suppose to be about (see last years trophy results). The only thing I can see is assists...he won due to his assists, that hadly makes him the best defenseman.

I agree 100% on this one. Also not thrilled about the Conn Smythe winner, Heatley was a none factor in the final. Kiprusoff the clear winner here. JMO

Well, he was the Playoff goal/point leader. lol Heatly was pretty well shut down in the final. I think, Kipper a clear winner imo. How the hell can Redden and Schneider lose to Lidstrom. Makes no sense. Also would like to see the voting in the future not go beyond the 1st Rd. of the playoffs, with the exception of the Conn Smythe. Kipper stopped 125 shots in the final in 5 games. Philly averaged 26 shots a game. Calg. 29 a game. Heatley 4 shots no points through the 1st 3 games. of the final. When you skate againest Hossa your numbers will suffer, he has a 74 Df and enough speed to stay in the Heaters face, Demitra was on the ice when Heatey finally came alive in game 4 with a goal and an assist. LOL ;D

Either Kipper or Heatley are deserving of the award, so which of them got it is really mute.
The issue is Lidstrom (so lets stay on that topic for now), I don't see how he could have possibly won the award.

I think people votied for him because he wins it NHL so often that its the name they know..... As for Heatley-Kipper, does say MVP for playoffs right and not th finals. Heatley got them to finalls with great play throughout playoffs and although in final he was shutdown in point, my guess is that a top DF guy had to be used to defend him and skate with him which opens door for others, points does not always mean MVP. Kipper was great, but Heatley was the man that got them to finalls, Kipper may have won it with the overwelming advantage in goal that Calgary had....JMPO! Glad to see board light up a little, it look like a dark broadway stage, no light on, no one home, just dark and deserted!!!! LOL

It kind of supprised me that Lidstrom was even nominated, so I'm a little shocked that he won. Obviously I voted for him, but I don't know how many others did or why. All I know is that he was an assist machine on a mediocre team (thus the -13...he can't stop all 5 guys at the same time). I'm just glad my trophy room isn't empty anymore

By that logic, Sergei Gonchar or Sheldon Souray should have won the Norris in the NHL. Both had more points than Lidstrom in the NHL, and are on worse teams.
Lidstrom obviously won the award with his +40, as opposed to Gonchar's -5, or Souray's -28.

I was estatic to see Heatley take home the Hart. Either him or Kipper deserved the Conn Smythe - with Kipper admittedly the more valuable in the Cup finals.
So awesome to win the GM of the Yr award - The Jack Adams...To me, that's almost better than taking the Cup...Thanks to all those who voted for me! Nice to be recognized by your peers - I might add an excellent group of lads! It's been a long and patient wait for me to take the Flames to the top, and this year it was amazing to see everything come together. "I love it when a plan comes together" (Hannibal from the A-team...lol I think most of my ground work for this year's edition of the Flames was done in previous years, but this year's pre-season deal bringing in Heatley and then part way bringing in Modano & Blake to totally solidify the team - these were the major moves that iced it...Once I found the right line combos that worked for me, I just let the boys do their thing!
Thanks again to all & congrats to all award winners (including Lidstrom...lol).

Well, while we're on it.....how did Hasek not win the Vezina? He was the league leader is GAA and SV%, and had a better win percentage than the other 3 nominees. Sure he had les shutouts than Nabokov, but it also took Nabokov 8 more games to get 4 more wins

Hasek did have a hell of a year, but so did Nabokov. Either one deserved the Vezina. Tell ya what, Hasek can take his picture with ot for his scrapbook

For me racking up plus/minus and points on a stacked team didn't impress me this year. I think it was debateable but when you see one team with all stacked numbers it is easy to question how great that one defenseman was or whether he benefitted from his team.
As you say +/- isn't everything or Tom Preissing and Anton Volchenkov would have been Norris contenders with their numbers.
