After a 4-12 start to the season and in the midst of a 10 game losing streak, the Florida Panthers have just fired coach Lindy Ruff, naming Doug Gilmour as his replacement.
Doug Gilmour enters the JGHL with no experience and according to GM Kevin Singh, is expected to bring a different feel to the team.
"We had to make a change in the dressing room and one that would be felt right away"
And with the fact that the Panthers have a few days until their next test against the Conference leading Maple Leafs, GM Singh knows that it will take a lot more than a coaching change to turn the Panthers around. The question remains....what IS next for the Panthers?
A stern look on Kevin Singh's face: "We're going to look at all avenues of making changes. At this point, we arent trying to absolutely blow things up, we are retooling and we have made the decision to listen to all offers that will make us a better club going forward.
We obviously want to plan for the future, and that's much more evident with the team that we have at this time.
When asked about the likes of Jonathon Toews and Kris Letang... Singh stated that it was unlikely that they would be going anywhere but wouldnt rule anything out.
Doug Gilmour for one, hopes that they will both be part of the club going forward "Obviously when you have the likes of Toews who's a cup winner, olympic gold medallist and junior championship gold medallist at the age of 23, you hope that leadership can take you far. But its part of an overall assessment that we're going to have to do going forward and do whats best for the team."
