Well after a few offers, I decided to move Keith. Hard to do but he is heading to the western division, which makes us happy to not have him in same division.
Deal saves us 3.2 mil of cap space while not losing big numbers with return.....
Now may consider moving Richards but it will take a solid offer and Langenbrunner will be part of deal.....that is only way I move him...........Send offers if interested. Looking for younger top 6 center & LW and not big slary but a players who have strong upside for this top line center who is still only 26 or 27...

I do believe this is the quietest this thread has EVER been, lol To Anh: Ville Leino, 2013 4th Rd. Pick To Fla: Marc-Edouard Vlasic This is the one trade I really didn't get. Anaheim takes on 3.8million, 4 years of age and gives up a great defensive dman. Oh, and gets a 4th round pick. Maybe I'm missing something here

If Leino gets a 68 OV next year (pretty likely), he'll end up still costing 4.4m when he hits RFA. This is his first year of good ratings, why in the world is he so expensive? Oh right, Unassigned claims not counting against the cap

Adam is right though, I took a double take on this one myself. Alot of players wind up ufa before they should because gm's sign them to 4yr contracts at 28-29, no RFA in this league should become ufa before 34, if they are signed properly.

Sure it does

Oh right, Unassigned claims not counting against the cap What do you mean Unassigned Claims not counting against the cap? Sure it does I'm fairly sure Leino was an unassigned claim, thats the only thing that explains his salary, unassigned silent bidding. Prior to the change we are making this year, those bids never REALLY counted against the cap (they were farmed right away) until the following years FA. Now that those bids will count against the cap at 100% at time of signing, those unassigned prices should be lower overall as people have to watch their money more closely. So you won't see prospects with 5m contracts, hopefully

Leino was an unassigned claim. They were getting out of hand. I claimed Weber a several years ago for 6 mil it was a good one.

So let me understand this correctly.... if i sign a guy on unassigned... and i move him to the farm... i still pay his full salary?

So let me understand this correctly.... if i sign a guy on unassigned... and i move him to the farm... i still pay his full salary? No you are misunderstanding, in past seasons we allowed players to be sent to the farm @ 10% BEFORE we started unassigned claims. Unassigned claims were never capped, you could sign guys for whatever you wanted as long as you were under cap before the season started. However it has now been changed that you will not be able to send players to the farm @ 10% until AFTER unassigned claims are over. AND the available cap room that you currently have will be used for unassigned claims as well. So you can only spend what you have available on unassigned, not be able to drop ridiculous numbers on players and then get under cap by seasons start. Ville Leino was one of those players, so that is the point Gavin was trying to make. I hope that made more sense.

Bottom line Kevin is you cannot use the farm til the season starts. When the season starts you will have 2wks to fill your roster if need be via the farm. I think the phrase until unassigned is over confuses people, because you can make claims til the trade deadline. We have that week or 2 before the season starts that unassigned is everynight with bidding etc..
Think of it like FA til the season starts.

okay i thought that's what the rule was.... but Gavin sorta confused me there... so yeah.
Well, when i signed Leino... i thought he would have grown into his contract sooner... Unassigned is a crap shoot, so at that time you had to offer a guy not what you thought he was worth then... but what he would turn out to be worth. I dont regret it, Leino will be a good one... plus hes an RFA after the season.. so its not like you have a huge potential to lose him.

yeah i couldnt decide whether I really hated this deal or not. Like, i love pavelski, and he wont be on the 3rd line thi year, so maybe hes the next great american center. on the otherhand, doughty is younger and almost certainly a perrenial norris guy
either way everyone votes to pass and two teams fortunes hang in the balance.
