I'm sorry but are we talking about the same trade? Stud d? Sure I like Alzner but he will never be top pairing, and Gardiner hasn't proven a thing yet. I think the biggest pluses for him are Hodgson and the two 1st round picks. As for salary dumping, sure he got rid of a good chunk but by no means am I in trouble with the cap! Lol

Good trade for both, for what they are tryin to achieve with their teams. Nice salary dump for the Ducks decent talent in return. Ya but since salary isn't an issue at all for Anaheim I would take Fleischman over Mcginn any day of the week as my winger for Staal. Just saying. Actually salary is a big issue for the Ducks, he is just one of the many of us that have al;ot of RFA's to sign.

Lol wow, calm down lol. I was responding to gavin, not bashing your deal! Alner is a top pairing shutdown D, in the NHL already. And being a leafs fan and having watched gardiner, no he hasnt proved anything, but hes a legit defenceman who looks like hes on the upswing. And no worries, your trade passed easily! Now its time to wait a few years and laugh in everyones faces when rattie gets to the NHL and the guys you traded amount to little

Haha! No worries. Alzner will be fortunate if he hit the calibre of say, Robyn regehr. As for Gardiner, with how the buds are ruining kadri, well I wouldn't hold my breath. After all, he's no emelin that's for sure!

At least the Isles have Tavares...the Leafs have...ummm...some kid with a concussion that they've already switched his position!

The problem wit the Islanders, is that they need a GM with balls... Enough balls to tell Mr Wang to let him run the team and hockey opperations alone... Until that time, they will struggle... As for the Leafs, well the Leafs are the Leafs... nuff said...

I like this deal for Kevin. Hemsky has very little value at this point. alzner is a lot more than regehr imho, and Gardiner is one of the only blue chippers on the leafs. Guy is a legit pmd already, and should see a breakout year from him this season or the next. Hodgson should have a good year in buffalo, and the 4th overall will get him another top talent. All in all this is really good return for Toews rattie, a useless hemsky and some low picks.

this coming from a "leafs" guy! lol Hey, just cause I'm in Toronto and a leaf fan doesn't mean im a homer and toot the horns of all our guys. I'm well aware of how embarrassing this franchise is to the rest of the hockey world out there, but if there is ONE consensus among all knowledgeable leaf fans out there who watch the games, its that Jake Gardiner is a legit player who stepped in as a rookie and did not look out of place. He was one of the few bright spots for us in the 2nd half of the season, which was a nightmare.

But I am not to convinced that JVR is the setup man that they so badly need... But who knows... Good for the buds if he plays better than he did in Philly... If he gets out of his shell, he could be a force for the Leafs... As a Flyers fan, just to bad it did not happen when he plaid for the Flyers... Well aside from that one playoff year...

I've always liked JVR...but that concussion stuff is scary. Can quickly derail any players career *cough cough Crosby cough cough*...As a Habs and Flames fan I hate to say that Toronto is an up and comer and eventually they will break though. And yes Gardiner will turn out to be a decent player *face palm*

That's great, but if we don't have a team 3 years what does it matter what players we have? The problem wit the Islanders, is that they need a GM with balls... Enough balls to tell Mr Wang to let him run the team and hockey opperations alone... If the owner won't let you spend money and circumvents the cap floor by giving out unatainable bonuses, it doens't matter who the GM of the team is.

If anyone watched Schenn last season (and some of the previous ones too), they would know there was little to no risk in giving him up for jvr. Even if jvr ends up being a 0.5ppg second liner, the deal is a win for the Leafs.
With that said, if Schenn can get back to the game he played in 09-10 (and that season only) then philly gets something out of it too. Otherwise Luke is one slow, often-out-of-position, overrated dman.
