I didn't realize Max Afinogenov came out of retirement. Apologies in advance Ray & Chris, but awful awful deal. Deals like this can set a team back years.

Of all the players I would give up that package for, Semin would not even be on the list. We're talking 3 1sts (counting the NJ 2nd as a late 1st) for a 30 year old, RFA Semin, with his best hockey and ratings behind him IMO. I think the system is designed to block trades like this from happening. Not trying to ruffle feathers, and I'm rarely up in arms about a deal but this one made my stomach churn a bit. Could be the Indian I had for lunch though.

I'm at work; Ray offers me a deal; I accept. Ray finished 3rd overall in the regular season last yr - knows a thing or two about "the ice hockey". The 2014 draft class is a weaker class, as most realize - the 2nd rnder is not a 1st - it's a second - another yr, you might say "1st rnd value" - not this yr. I'd venture to say with this year's class the Montreal 1st is 2nd rnd quality. So I'd view it as a 1st next yr and 2 x 2nd rnders. Do I know prospects? Yes. Do I make mistakes drafting? You bet... Look back at my recent deals - not like I'm pulling any jedi mind tricks these days - in fact, I'd venture to say that if I don't actually lose out on a deal, it probably doesn't get accepted - that's my perception. Ray requested to pull the deal - I agree to. *** For those who have had trade discussions with me, I'll likely need a few days or more before I'm in the mood to even discuss.
Cheers

I say if these two "from the beginning guys" want to make that trade, it is their choice, no one else. yes we vote so no one gets a bad beatdown, but these guys have been around and no one is getting a beat down in my humble opinion and one guy goes back to the dark ages so he knows what he is doing and no one will take advantage of that old crusty dude! Just sayin!
Every once in a while someone gives and takes a lil bit more then they should but with experience should count for something!

Chris I fully get everything you said, and in no way is your integrity questioned. I always try to focus on the deal at hand and leave the GMs involved out of it, that way it doesn't get personal. You know I got nothing but respect for you.
The whole weak draft class is overblown, I assure you good players will come out of the 2014 class from 15-40. As we know by now, 1st rounders are valuable currency regardless of strength of the draft class, and often are moved for solid rated players if teams need to shed salary. Pretty sure we've had 10 deals of that nature since off season trading opened.
Understand that this may come off as a sabotage, which naturally will make one side unhappy but I promise you that if the sides were flipped, my argument would not change. Just looking at side A and side B.

Just to keep the record straight, it was entirely my idea, Chris did what anyone else would do, and accepted it. On the other hand, since I'm far from perfect, I want to know when I may have made an error in judgement, I really seldom bitch about a rejected trade cause I have faith in the leagues decision, all those heads are better then just my head.

Well, just caught wind that the trade was 5-3 in acceptance before it was pulled... *** Eug: forgive me if I'm a bit jaded with the trade voting process. I've had probably close to double digits trade rejections over the years - not one trade rejection against a trade partner of mine - last few seasons I've had to make deals where I know I'm overpaying, just to get it done. Any of those rejected? Nada.

Guys I love both of you with all my heart, and have known you since day 1 of this league. It's got absolutely nothing to do with either of you, your past deals, or your hockey acumen. When i see a bad deal that's bad enough for me to reject, I feel obligated to give an explanation. If the rest of the league doesn't share my view and it passes, then be it. I hate to post that explanation as the vote is still taking place, but that's become the norm for us. I've been in your shoes when my deal with Winnipeg last year got ripped apart the minute it got posted, and we reworked it. I too had to explain that it was a simple accepting of an offer that was sent. It happens, sometimes people miscalculate.

I am thinking the trade should have played out and either been rejected or passed and only be pulled if both GM's agreed, one or two comments against has not always ruin the trade........there should be a silent time when a trade is put up and let the democratic process take shape good or bad.......opinions should be saved for after trade is voted on and either passed or rejected. Maybe have Jon and Gavin look at a trade and post a commissioners thought if trade is way to crazy or a newby is involved....Just a thought! Either way, I could care less, I will go back and make the trade happen!

It probably would have passed, but they asked to pull it so it was pulled.
It wasn't out of the question, as those picks aren't that great, but it was pretty bad.
