Thought the package going back for Karlsson was great. Hard to say what Lehner is going to be, but hopes are high for him in Ottawa. Petrovic is a player, so he's not just a throw in. Then you pick up the 2nd overall pick (Reinhart/Draisaitl) and another blue chip prospect with the 14th overall. Say it ends up Reinhart, Fiala, Lehner, Petrovic. I take that package for almost any 1 player, any day. Karlsson is a great offensive D, but he's not exactly a do it all type of guy. Mike has no use for him for the next 3-4 years, it's a good cash in.

In the NHL that deal wouldn't happen but in this league Karlsson will have great offensive numbers but never great DF ratings. Good deal for both teams.

I understand that people are going to value "futures" differently than others but I think that Barkov has a decent chance of turning out to be at Couture's level and possibly chance to be better.
I would say that the 2nd pick also has a decent chance of being at a similar level to Karlsson as well, but I am also not a fan of one dimensional players although I think they are less of a detriment in the sim than the real NHL.
I think that bigger trades will always have differences of opinions. I have a high view of Poirier and think he is a very likely NHLer in the next two years so for me he is a solid piece coming back. If you see him as question mark then of course you would question if it is enough. I also like he 2015 draft so I would take those picks over a "proven" NHL guy as well.

Value of prospects and picks has been a hot topic for us for as long as i remember. Some will value ratings over future assets no matter what, and some will sell ratings for a package of youth and be happy campers. Bottom line for me, anytime someone puts a well rated player up on the block, what do they ask for back 9/10 times? Picks, youth and prospects. Its not just about stocking your cupboards and sitting on it. What one does with those picks and prospects matters. Not much different from the stock market. You buy a stock, it goes up in value, you can sell, or you can hold it and hope the value keeps rising. Or it drops and you sell lower.
Picks (especially 1st rounders) are not an exact science but with homework and some research you can pick up a guy that will be a franchise cornerstone for the next 10 years. Of course some bust and get injured, but so so established young NHL players. Karlsson, Erik and Jack Johnsons, Huberdeau, Gudbranson, Scheifele, are a few examples of established young NHL players that have had a tough go so far due to injury or lack of development. Im not pretending to be an expert or a scout, ive been wrong with prospects. But for every Jordan Schroeder (who I thought would be sick) I have drafted a Hamonic, a Stastny, or a Nyquist (all outside the 1st round). Right now I have a feeling Josh Leivo will be a 50-60 point stud. I could be dead wrong, but I'm willing to stick with him long enough to see it happen. Its all very subjective, which makes the voting more tricky.

I thought it was a great deal both ways. If I put Karlsson on the block today (which I'm not so please don't send PMs lol) I think I'd be very hard pressed to get my value back and it now gives Mike #1 and #2 overall which is a pretty big power-move to set himself up for the future. Like someone said, in 2-3 seasons LA will be much better served with the package of players than just having Karlsson and I'm happy to give up future depth for the best offensive D-man in the game.

Nice return to the Rangers for Sekera. Payin' for his nice ratings this season; can't blame Sharky for that.

I really like Reilly Smith... Top notch hockey sense and a natural scorer. I know I paid a lot! I don't think Sekera is a one season wonder though, I really do think he played like a top D last year.

Sekera will still play 24 to 26 minutes a game since Canes did not get anyone else. He did great job last year and should do same this season with mintes needed by him.

^just edited my comment; damn phone - was supposed to be "can't blame Sharky" not "can blame Sharky". To clarify, good deal on both sides - thought NYR might've even gotten more for Sekara.

Sorry buddy but I think you over paid on this one. If Larsson does not make top 6 in NJ, he may be headed back to Sweden, so why wait, had him two seasons.......NJ fan friends says he may not be with be Devils again....Krug is established the other two are not. the 5th for goalie is just throw in......plus I can't win all the trades, sometimes you go with your gut and who you like more then what one perceives as value or not.....we will see down the line if I did indeed. If I worried about all the trades I made winning or losing I be nuts.....because I would have had the greatest team of all time if not for making lots of bad trades LOL

Larsson is nearing bust territory. Of course he could turn it around but he'll always have to live up to being a 4th overall pick.
