Hey Chris,
Nice write up, but I am surprise that you have the Flyers picking so late... I am not even sure that they will be making the playoffs again this year... LOL

If the Flames take Pujalarvi over Matthews and Chychrun I will personally kick Treliving in the balls.

lol...I do think you'd have to take Auston "Powers" at this point if you have #1. If it were Pujujarvi (would fix up that right side real nice!) or Chychrun Treliving preferred, they would likely trade down, but also tough to pass over a player like Matthews. Jesse is 8 months younger than Auston and is a heck of a talent. Some scouts have Laine over Puljujarvi. I admittedly wanted to shake things up with this version of the mock and have some fun with it. These things go off the rails pretty fast.

You know, looking at it again, I would say that the Leafs will pass on Matthews as well and go for the best goalie available to be their starter next season... LOL

Tell me truthfully, Scott, given hypothetical choice: A) No matter what happens rest of the year or the lottery results, Flames get Puljujarvi in the draft B) Roll the dice, and see what happens rest of the season, see how the standings and lottery play out I'd take Puljujarvi all day... (Hoping Flames get a top 6 [maybe 7 or 8] pick, preferably top 5)

At best they are 3rd overall and a definite step below Matthews and Chychrun in my view. They are lucky in that outside of the top 2 I think the top level of the draft is very weak. I am not sure there is a whole lot of difference from say 3-12/13. I will be livid if I don't get one of the top two picks in the JGHL draft this year.

Interesting viewpoint, Scott - I definitely need to see more of Chychrun - love his potential though - was hoping he might make World Juniors.
Should make the JGHL entry draft exciting to see how it plays out!

You are probably going to be right. As much as I think some have gone too far to the positive with the Finns based on the WJHC I think I have probably gone too far the other way because the WJHC left me with such a bad taste in my mouth. I still think the Finns best player that tournment were the refs! So the play of Pujajari and Laine was very jaded by that for me.
I was pretty pleased that it looked like the Flames were going to be getting one of those two guys prior to the tournament so I probably shouldn't go too far away from that now.

Hmm dunno Scott, the two Finns looked great in the games I watched. Big, strong, mature and super skilled. This was the first time I saw Laine play and boy was I impressed. Puj and Aho too. There was another dude on D (name escapes me) who was oozing with talent, but think he's 2017 eligible.
Not denying the refs were a little biased but the Finnish program is imo the best right now and producing sure bet NHLers every draft. Canada could learn a thing or two lol.
