Here are the Monthly JGHL Power Rankings as of November 15, 2016:
26) Montreal Canadiens (3-12-0)
The Habs are right where GM Shawn Michaels wants them in the middle of a rebuild - challenging for the #1 pick in the 2017 JGHL Entry Draft.
First Month MVP: Francois Beauchemin - the veteran defenseman leads the young Habs in scoring and ice time.
25) Los Angelse Kings (2-10-2)
The Kings were hoping to be better this season but still have an impressive group of youngsters. Things will get better.
First Month MVP: Martin Jones - Franchise goalie has played every minute of every game for the Kings.
24) Vancouver Canucks (4-9-2)
Two-time defending champs still capable of winning an occasional game, but rebuilding process means they'll challenge for a lottery spot this year.
First Month MVP: Cam Talbot - "Backup" goalie has been incredible, posting a .933 save percentage and a 1.76 goals against average.
23) Detroit Red Wings (4-10-2)
Another club that hoped to be better, but problems in their own end are holding them back.
First Month MVP: Bryan Little - First line centre averaging better than a point per games and is +7 on defensively challenged team.
22) Edmonton Oiler (4-7-4)
A team in transition, the Oilers have some nice pieces but are still a year or two away from being serious playoff contenders.
First Month MVP: Michael Neuvirth - Another #2 man outplaying the starting goalie, has all four team wins and a 2.96 goals against average.
21) Winnipeg Jets (5-8-1)
The Jets may actually be exceeding expectations and have been more than respectable. Four firsts in the next two drafts mean help is coming.
First Month MVP: Jimmy Howard - Starting netminder has been solid, posting a 5-8-1 record and keeping the Jets in a lot of games.
20) New Jersey Devils (5-9-1)
With the rebuild underway, Devils fans, used to winning, are enjoying watching the kids develop. Patience is the word in Jersey.
First Month MVP: Valtteri Filppula - Veteran centre is having a career year to lead Devils in scoring while playing 20 minutes a game.
19) Tampa Bay Lightning (6-9-0)
GM Scott Mooney has to be happy with the effort in what he knew would be a long year.
First Half MVP: Dylan Larkin - Young franchise centre leading Bolts in goals and points and giving Tampa fans a taste of a brighter future.
18) Carolina Hurricanes (7-7-1)
Future Hall of Fame General Manager Kevin Byrnes has his Hurricanes in a place no one expected - challenging for a playoff spot.
First Month MVP: Artem Anisimov - Second line centre is leading team in scoring despite not playing on #1 powerplay unit.
17) St. Louis Blues (7-6-2)
This was supposed to be a down year for the Blues, but recent win over the powerful Sharks shows they are still dangerous.
First Month MVP: Scott Darling - #2 goalie forced into starting roll due to Carey Price injuries has responded with a 2.35 goals against average.
16) Washington Capitals (8-6-1)
The goal at the start of the season was the playoffs and that's where they are. But still lots of work to do.
First Month MVP: Daniel Sedin - Veteran winger is having a bounce back season and currently leads the team in scoring.
15) Boston Bruins (6-5-4)
Offense isn't the problem in Beantown, but hard to predict long-term success for a team allowing over four goals against a game.
First Month MVP: Patrick Kane - Shifty winger is arguably one of the top five players in the JGHL. 20 points in 15 games leads team.
14) Buffalo Sabres (9-6-0)
Scoring is a problem for the Sabres who have the fewest goals for of any Eastern Conference team.
First Month MVP: Henrik Lundqvist - Hasn't been consistent, but Buffalo only wins when the King is good.
13) Florida Panthers (7-7-2)
Perennial Eastern powers haven't fired on all cylinders yet, but hard to worry about a team with Crosby and Ovechkin in the lineup.
First Month MVP: Henrik Zetterberg - Wily veteran is among the league leaders in assists (12) showing he still has game.
12) New York Islanders (8-5-2)
Looking to return to the playoffs after missing in 2015-2016. So far so good.
First Month MVP: Ryan O'Reilly - All situation stud leads Islanders in goals, points and forward time on ice.
11) Pittsburgh Penguins (8-6-1)
Showing what a good defense and a capable goalie can do for a team. Once offense catches up this team will be good.
First Month MVP: Marc-Andre Fleury - All-star goalie has been spectacular posting a 2.35 goals against average and a .910 save percentage.
10) Chicago Blackhawks (7-4-4)
Hawks have stamped themselves as legitimate Western Conference Contenders after a strong start.
First Month MVP: John Klingberg - Young blueliner is 4th in the JGHL with 15 assists and looks like a franchise anchor for years to come.
9) New York Rangers (10-5-1)
One of the biggest surprises of the year, defending Eastern Conference champions weren't supposed to be this competitive.
First Month MVP - Braden Holtby - When a team is much better than expected it's usually the goalie. A serious league MVP candidate.
8) Colorado Avalanche (10-5-0)
The excitement is already builidng in Denver as the league's first dynasty tries to get back to the playoffs for the first time in eight seasons.
First Month MVP: Drew Doughty - Norris contender leads the team in scoring and the entire league with 20 assists.
7) Calgary Flames (10-5-1)
A definite Western Conference contender but playing in the tough Pacific Division makes winning a little more difficult.
First Month MVP: Jonathan Toews - Captain serious has been seriously good this season, leading team in goals and points.
6) San Jose Sharks (9-5-1)
Team with Top 3 potential hasn't been as good as expected to date. Look for this ranking to improve as the season moves ahead.
First Month MVP: Victor Hedman - Number one defenseman has been one of few bright spots on an otherwise inconsistent team.
5) Minnesota Wild (10-3-2)
Coach Dino Ciccarelli is an early coach of the year candidate after the Wild's better than expected start.
First Month MVP: Evgeni Malkin - Wild leading scorer has given the offense a turbo-charging in the early going.
4) Anaheim Ducks (11-3-1)
Bonus points to anyone who had the Ducks ahead of the Sharks and Flames at this stage of the season.
First Month MVP: Jonathan Quick - Has performed exactly how Ducks GM Al Lefebvre had hoped - as a premium #1 goalie.
3) Toronto Maple Leafs (11-3-1)
Leafs GM Eug Sorokin was considering tearing it down at the start of the year. Probably a good decision he didn't.
First Month MVP: Tuukka Rask - Co-Vezina favorite with Braden Holtby at this point. 2nd in the league with 1.94 goals against average.
2) Philadelphia Flyers (12-2-1)
The Eastern Conference's most consistent team so far. Overall balance means they are capable of winning multiple ways.
First Month MVP: Matt Niskanen - Underated defenseman is producing as a true number one blueliner with 24 points in 15 games.
1) Nashville Predators (13-2-1)
No surprsie here. Preds entered season as a JGHL Cup favorite and haven't done anything to change that opinion.
First Month MVP: Ben Bishop - All-star goaltender looking to backstop teams to consecutive championships.
