With the tightness of the races for playoff spots etc., lot's of teams still deciding to be buyers or sellers. Seems to be one of the more interesting season's in awhile, nice to see some of the new GM's improving teams that were neglected in the past. No team is a gimme. Improvements by Staff, like Morale, injuries etc., also seem to be a positive factor. I was wondering if we should think about slightly raising the cap for next season, or would that hurt future trade deadline deals. I think that the fact , that a farmed players ratings can rise high enough to be forced to the pro team , can be more of a negative then a positive in some cases. Comments Welcome!! Please.

I'm not generally a fan of injuries and morale, but I guess I'd say of this is the most competitive season in years, why change things? Tho I'd be down with removing morale and lowering injuries

Feel free to send some trades to Gavin. Don't put it all on Jon. Trade deadline not too far off. I can always get hold of Gavin in 5 minutes.

All this talk of the Flames bolstering their amazing team with the Ryan trade, but then they go and lose to the lowly Islanders. What a shame.

Well slap my ass and call me Sally, that right there, is a trade. Consider your ass "slapped." Kevin is one hell of a negotiator. I will say it's always fun talking to a veteran GM about trades like this and what you ideally want to see out of your team, because a lot of the time they can give you insight on what they have done in the past. It's extremely helpful for us newer GMs that everyone is open to talking through these kinds of deals, instead of just trying to rob us blind!

It's extremely helpful for us newer GMs that everyone is open to talking through these kinds of deals, instead of just trying to rob us blind! Well firstly, I want to commend you Mike for wanting to negotiate. Looking at where we started vs. where we ended up, I think we both knew there was something eachother wanted from eachother and we had to give a little to get a little. That's the part that I want to see more of. I find too often, guys are pissed when you're "kicking tires" and they just want an offer. Well... I cant give you an offer unless you tell me what you're looking to do because it could be very off base. There's been conversation about why there aren't as many deals as there were in the past. I firmly believe that it's been a hard shell to crack with a few guys in the last little while, however I'm happy to say that since this deal.. the floodgates have opened a bit (probably because of the message this deal might have sent). Nonetheless, my open message to all... is have an open mind, be willing to discuss options.. be creative and understand that you're not going to fleece many people here. There's a give and a take. I have my favorites to deal with here and they know who they are because they're always looking for a solution.

Eh kicking tires can get tiresome too. The "what are you looking for" or "what do you want for ____" is thrown out way too often. That's not to say "make an offer and we'll go from there" works either. The best method is somewhere in between, ie. "I'm interested in ____, and have xyz available. Is _____ available, and are you interested in xyz? If not xyz, then maybe qvw?" and so on.
Look I've made a few trades in my day, kicked a few tires, pissed a few people off, insulted others, and even made a complete ass of myself to the point where they never want to msg me again and think im a maniac. But i have never, ever, ripped anyone off. Ever. And if anyone tells you different, they're the real monster here. Now trade me Ovechkin for Matt Read.

Nosek is absolutely off the table. You're talking a high upside guy, in the jiri lehtinen mold, perrenial selke candidate. I'll need at least a 1st back.

I'll agree that there's different approaches but I think the bottom line is there ARE different approaches and that's not a bad thing. Laying groundwork is something that I also think is valuable too.. someone may not want to deal with you the guy you want at that given point, but things change.. situations changes.. slumps happen.. cinderella teams happen (cough, vegas, cough).. without going into too much detail.. I believe Mike and I laid the groundwork on this deal for a while... he knew what I was eyeing on his team and vice versa.. Eug, whenever you and I have hooked up on a deal, I feel like it's been when the value we feel is right on both sides. Sometimes it takes some time to get there, but timing has to be right as well..
