Montreal is all in on the chase for the 2020 JGHL Cup!
After years of being a bottom feeder, and a failed reboot 2 years ago, Montreal has switched gears and is in full out War Mode, ready to battle with Nashville, Pitts, Calgary, San Jose and any dark horses that rise up in the meantime.
Far removed from their former glory, long-time Coach Lou Lamoriello lobbied the front office for change… and change is what he got.
Moving out this year:
Ryan Nugent Hopkins
Darnell Nurse
Zach Werenski
Shea Theodore
Pavel Zacha
Kevin Fiala
Daniel Sprong
Barclay Goodrow
Sam Steel
MTL 1 2019 (#3)
ANA 1 2020
VAN 1 2019 (#20)
MTL 1 2020
MTL 2 2019
MTL 2 2020
Moving in:
John Carlson
Victor Hedman
Claude Giroux
Vladmir Tarasenko
Carey Price
Andy Greene
Cody Eakin
Brandon Tanev
NSH 1 2019 (#22)
NSH 2 2019 (SKIPPED!)
And lets not forget those that had the briefest of stays in MTL:
Brett Pesce
Justin Faulk
A nearly brand new backend has been fashioned, and we have now brought in that elusive #1 goalie.
When speaking with GM Goldmintz, he seemed to have a sense of urgency about the coming year: “We know we have a 1 year window to make this happen. The JGHL is a different league now, with cap flexibility limited, dynasties are a thing of the past. We know Carey will be gone next year, and some of our younger players are due for some serious raises. Keeping this group together will be impossible, and so they really need to relish the moment and make the most of their opportunities. The fans in Montreal have been suffering for so long, we really want to give them something to cheer about”.
Line combos aren’t set, but here is how the team is shaping up:
Teravainen – Barkov – Tarasenko
Giroux – Aho – Debrincat
Tanev – Matthews – Hoffman
Bjorkstrand – Eakin – Brown
Carlson - Lindell
Hedman – Greene
Chabot – Carlo
Price
DeSmith
The team is expected to lean on their goal scoring prowess to overpower teams, rather than sitting back on their heels and letting the game come to them.
An exciting year is on the way in Quebec!
