I was super-stoked for the NHL Flames this season (objectivity seems to go out the window when I analyze "my" NHL fav team).
The 1st period I was like: yes my analysis of all of Treliving moves have panned exactly how him and I thought they would. Unprecedented (yes, most overused word of 2020) depth for the Flames, bonafide star, difference-making goalie, super value signings (Leivo, Simon, Nordstrom, Nesterov), overpaid but useful dman Tanev who can help Hanifin further evolve, Calder candidate Valimaki, revamped lines to take pressure off Johnny and Mony. The emergence of Dube. Still wondered about the deployment of Sam Bennett...
And the the 2nd and 3rd period happened...
And I'm already pressing the panic button so many times it has been non-functional...
Screaming (well internally screaming) as I drink my awesome craft brewery porter (I love sipping on porters, stouts in winter - controlled, reasonable amounts of course!): - Blow it up, Treliving! - The Looch Experiment is over! Ride the Pine, Milan! - Why is Dominic Simon not playing!? - Markstrom looks like Mike Smith without the playmaking!! - I hate the Oilers - and their winning the draft lottery 4 in 6 yrs! - McDavid - f*ck, the NHL are idiots - this is so unfair!!! How could he have ended up in Deadmonton! (Sorry, Gary et al - this was my hockey state of fury talking) - Geoff Ward is not an NHL head coach -he is effin clueless - has no clue as to how to deploy the forward lines!!
How's everyone else feeling about their NHL teams thus far? lol

If the Hawks don't finish at the bottom of the standings, I'll be VERY surprised.

Can't complain on my part...
Philly starts the season with 2 wins, and it’s the first time they have won the first two games of the season in back-to-back seasons since the 1997-98 and 1998-99 seasons.
Carter Hart, looks amazing... (side note still a little pissed that I missed him during his draft year because of internet issues, but that is the past..)
I guest the only sad thing about it is that Coots got hurt in the second game and is out for a minimum of 2 weeks

If the Hawks don't finish at the bottom of the standings, I'll be VERY surprised. Red Wings are going to battle you hard for it. We can't even get 15 shots on goal in a game. We have to shoot the puck more if we even want to have a chance in games. However Greiss is completely solid. Defense is a step above last year as well, so we can keep games close at least.

LOL Chris. I literally wrote to Monty after the Leafs 1st period last night “Leafs look good, just pure eye test”. Then about 30 min later I followed up with “ya never mind”.
Same shit different year - loosey goosey run and gun style that leads to way too many odd man rushes for the other team. Freddy Andersen just continues to give up stinkers and I’d be all for moving on from him at this point. Marner looking like the same soft, turnover prone, disinterested, 11 million dollar hobbit. I like Brodie but he’s a bit of a fart in his own end. They should make playoffs but I doubt it’s a cup team.

dont worry Leafers, you'll probably get your recovery win tonight and then i get to sit in silence for the rest of the season. The kids looked good, but they still need time to gel. Plus unnecessary "VET" signings clogged the roster.
Enjoy the season boys! Go Sens Go!

I think the Senators are gonna be a bit of surprise this year, they look really solid so far to start with, and my boy Brady looks HUNGRY.

On record to say I like what the Sens have done and where they’re going. You give me a choice between the two rosters on paper and I’m choosing Sens 100/100 times. Still think they should have taken Drysdale in the draft but man are they gonna be great in a few years.

I keep the same paper bag with holes for every year just in case. Hey, at least we’re not the Blues right? They should get their cup confiscated after losing 8-0.

What are you guys' thoughts on the Laine/Dubois trade? And on what is going on in Pitts, with Trader Jim stepping down as GM?
For the trade, I am not to sure on who is the winner of this one. IF the Peg gets the Dubois from his last game in Columbus, you could consider them loosing the trade. But it also depends on which Laine shows up in Columbus, and Columbus may have a little advantage in Roslovic if he becomes the second coming of Leclair. I guess only time will tell on that one. To be honest, I did not see that one coming, and I suppose that Dubois' last shift sped things up in terms of a trade being done, but I was sure he was going to be moved out West to a California team; and thought that Laine was going to finish the season in the Peg.
As a Flyers fan, I am happy to see Jimmy step down from the GM of the Pens. Just hated when he would come in just before the deadline and make a big splash on the trade market and get a player that made them better and harder to play against. But as a hockey fan, this is a bit suspicious, and am wondering if there might be some trouble in Pens paradise. They all claim it was not for health reason, and I do not believe the "It was the right time" reason given by Jimmy. Now there are some pundits out there that are saying that the was some friction between Jimmy and part of the ownership of the team; some are saying that it is because ownership blocked a Letang trade that Jimmy was working on. I guess we will never know the true story; but it is sad to see one of the best GMs in the business step away from the game so soon. I hope that in a year or so, when this pandemic crap goes away, that we will see Jimmy back at the helm of a team in the NHL.

I thought Jarmo absolutely killed it in the Laine deal. To land an elite sniper for a publicly disgruntled Dubois was incredible in my eye.
I go back and forth on Jimmy Rutherford and his GM record. Can't argue with Cup wins to start I guess. I also feel that he has made some poor decisions over the years that actually weakened already strong teams and feel that some of his squads won in spite of him. But maybe that's just me and my analysis of the deals. Again, tough to argue with results. I really wonder about the timing too, Al. Something is really off here if it's not to do with health.

I thought they both did well on that deal. They were both patient and got lucky that there were two disgruntled stars wanted to et traded at the same time. I think it was great GMing on both sides. Roslovic seems like a bust but hes worth a flyer too.
I know Cs are worth so much more than wingers, but IMO laine is a bigger star than PLD, so it seems like a wash. Both did so well not to make a panic move.
And rutherford... idk, he seems like an okay GM. He never did anything that seemed super smart. He wasnt a minus but i dont think he did anything that won them a cup specifically. Players want to play with Cros and malkin. I guess that kessel trade was a huge deal though.
