Was apparently in a Hot Tub at the time, so he was wet, which explains why he slipped.

But it was not head he got hitting fireworks in chest.at least that's report The reporting I heard was he slipped and hit his head, nothing to do with fireworks into his chest at all /shrug. I don't really get why you'd be running from Fireworks in the first place, unless they are some BIG TIME fireworks and totally out of control, they generally are not very dangerous.

Here is part of the article from TSN "A medical examiner in Michigan says an autopsy has determined that Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Matiss Kivlenieks died of chest trauma from an errant fireworks mortar blast, and not a fall as authorities previously reported. Police in Novi, Michigan, said the mortar-style firework tilted slightly and started to fire toward people nearby Sunday night. The 24-year-old Kivleniek was in a hot tub and tried to get clear with several other people, police Lt. Jason Meier said. The fire department and EMTs got to the private home shortly after 10 p.m. and took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Meier said. The Oakland County Medical Examiner’s office reported preliminary autopsy results Monday afternoon. Prior to the autopsy, police said Kivlenieks was believed to have slipped and hit his head on concrete while running from a malfunctioning firework." www.tsn.ca/columbus-blue-jackets-goalie-matiss-kivlenieks-dead-at-24-1.1663959Looks like when they first got there, they thought he slipped and hit his head, but after the autopsy, the cause of death was changed. My issue s, why would they not have said that in the first place, wouldn't he have a big scare on his chest from the blast? And wouldn't he be visible from the get-go? Nonetheless. it is still a tragic accident and a big loss for the Blue Jackets. Kind of reminds me of a young Russian Dman the Flyers had who died in a tragic boating accident back in the 90s. Or the young Dman that Vancouver had who died in a motor bike accident back in the early 2000s.

This is just horrible one way or another. Likely a tragic mix of circumstance and timing. My personal reaction would probably be to submerge into the hot tub but who the hell knows.

Agreed, NHL teams need to be harder on their younger players and give them classes that basically say "Hey - you are young and about to be successful, don't be a dumbass"
