So Today, the Sabres finally pulled the trigger on an Eichel trade.
Sabres trade Eichel to Golden Knights for Krebs, Tuch and picks.
Here are the trade details:
Forwards Alex Tuch and Peyton Krebs, a 2022 first-round pick and a second-round pick in 2023 are going back to the Sabres, who will send a 2023 third-round pick along with Eichel to Vegas.
The first-round pick heading to Buffalo is top-10 protected for next year's draft, while TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger adds the Sabres retained no salary on Eichel's $10 million cap hit. If Vegas’ first-tound draft pick in the 2022 NHL Draft is a top-10 pick (following the Draft Lottery results) then, Vegas will transfer its own first-round pick (unprotected) in the 2023 NHL Draft and its own second-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft to Buffalo, while the Sabres will transfer their own third-round pick in 2024 to Vegas.
Personally, I am still on the fence about this deal. It seems like Buffalo did not get as much as they could get. But also, there is no guaranty that Eichel will be the same player after his operation.
Then again, there was a feeling that no matter what the health of Eichel was, that Buffalo would not have gotten full value in return. But at least this negative elephant in the room is gone, and they can now look at a possible brighter future, without a player that did not want to be there.
What are your thoughts?

Feels around right to me given the medical uncertainty, the rumor I was hearing about an offer from Calgary seemed way too high.

The rumoured Tkachuk +++ for Eichel was just stupid, happy that didn’t turn out to be true.
It just came down to the cap I think…. Calgary needed it basically dollar for dollar and I don’t think Buffalo wanted that.
