Not going to lie - although I thought it was like 30-70 chances Johnny Hockey would stay in Calgary, I'm absolutely gutted as to how this played out.
I would have put money down on Devils landing him. CBJ was from outer space, let alone left field...
*** Flames asset management also just brutal...
How the Matthew Tkachuk thing plays out will be super interesting.

How the Matthew Tkachuk thing plays out will be super interesting. I don’t think Treliving could have won this situation. He couldn’t trade his best player last season as the Flames were looking really good. It would have been great to try to extend Gaudreau last summer, and I’m sure he tried, but it seems like Gaudreau just didn’t want to stay in Calgary in hind sight. He probably took 7-8 million dollars less to play in Columbus (this confused by that). Being a Flames fan is just pain. We draft a Norris winning defenseman in the third round? He refuses to play a game for us. We draft an art Ross contender in the 5th round? He leaves us. Draft a goal scoring center 5th overall in Monahan? His body breaks down. Tkachuk definitely seems to be next. The flames drafting has been a strength, but they have been quite unlucky. Meanwhile the oilers just continually draft first overall until they land a generational player …. And they even with a generational performance by said player in the playoffs they still can’t win because they suck at all other facets of running a hockey team. Yes I’m upset over this lol

(I know other fan bases struggle as well - Jon and NYI of course). *** Yah, for me, Oilers team motto should be: "Always given. Never earned." I'm not bitter at all lol Edmonton Oil Tankers. Well, us Flyers fans are struggling a little more than the Flames Fans... Johnny wanted to come to play in Philly, but Fletcher did not want to bring him over. Instead, he signed a 4th goon to a 4 years contract because players like him are hard to find and there were a lot of demands for him. And gave him a 20-team no-movement clause on top of it all. We have a great goalie in Carter Hart, but the kid is mentally fragile and Chucky does try to get him a veteran backup that could actually help him. The management team is comprised of a bunch of old farts that are still stuck in 70s hockey; ownership has not been the same since Mr. Snyder passed away, and are more concerned with money coming in instead of putting a good product on the ice. The scouting team is one of the worse in the league. It is time to do a major clean-up and fire everyone in Management and bring fresh new blood and bring in people that will help rebuild this team properly and create a new team identity.

Tkachuk is basically forcing a trade now to top everything off, but you are right I wouldn’t want to trade places with the flyers. I at least have faith in the Flames GM and scouting team. For the most part Trelivings trades and drafting have been good to great and I’m comfortable having him at the helm when the team needs to make its biggest trade since trading Iginla (which was completely botched by our old GM Jay Feaster).
