Colorado is pleased to announce the addition of Jason Pominville.
Coach Milbury had this to say on the acquisition, "We could not be more pleased with the addition of Jason. He is a fantastic all around player who brings some extra offense and much needed defense to the team. Jason will step right in and debut on the 2nd line against Anaheim. Hopefully he can help increase our penalty kill percentage as well, to match our league best powerplay unit."
Rumors have swirled that Brian Gionta has since asked to be traded. Coach Milbury addressed those rumors....."Unfortunately yes, this is true that Brian has asked to be traded. With the addition of Pominville to our team we will be moving Gionta down to the third line. Brian is not pleased about this and has demanded a trade. Brian has been a great asset to our organization, and so to try and accomodate him we are actively shopping him for the deadline."
Asked the question of why they would give up a budding, young, potential superstar goalie in Pekka Rinne when it looks like a re-build is not to far off in the future, GM Madsen addressed those concerns......."Pekka definitely has a tremendous amount of potential and will have a grteat career I'm sure, but we had to do what we felt was best for the team right now. We made a promise last offseason that we were going to do everything we could for our captain Joe Sakic to make one last run before he possibly hangs it up, and that's what we're trying to do. Joe's contract expires after this season, and while we'd like for him to stay with the team, it seems highly unlikely. We feel we are much stronger today than we were yesterday, and hopefully with one more deal or two we'll be exactly where we want to be!"
