Going on three years now ive been getting annoyed at the leafs drafting (and not dafting) issues.
First of all, the points i am about to make are not with the benefit of retrospect, you can ask eugene, ive been bitching about this shit for 3 full years.
Fist off, we get the trade with the isles for the 5th pick. Inexplicably with filatov on the board we take schenn, who is a great stay at home d with POSSIBLE 40 pt potential (not that it seems hes going to reach it yet) This is nikita fucking filatov, by far the best offensive player not going #1 overall, soething you just cant get in FA. So i was pissed from the very beggining.
Then we have the kadri draft. Kadri is a good player, dont get me wrong. But hes got mike riberio written all over him. Instead we could have picked up MSP (now just MP) who is a legit game changing talent with insane size and speed on the wing, soething that again, you just dont find on the open market.
THEN we trade 2 1sts and a 2nd for kessel. Kessel is good, again, dont get me wrong. But we were going to be a bad team last year no matter what. PPl were loving this trde when it happened and all i kept saying is this: tell me, who is out 1st line center this season? (the answer was grabovski), and you think we are NOT going to finish bottom 5 with no forwards, a good D and SHAKY goaltending?
So if i had my way right now we would be looking at an edmonton esqe future top line of MP, Seguin, and filatov, plus our 2010 2nd and 1st next year. I would go to see those guys play. Kadri might pan out into a star, but its not obvious, even if kessel scores 40, he better do it for multiple years in a row, and maybe schenn will go scott stevens on us, it just hasnt happened yet. But as of today, im just as mad as I was when the called out schenns name instead of filatovs.
FUCK THE LEAFS AND THEIR STUPID MOVES

The Kessel trade is one that fucked over both teams. With Seguin, Toronto could be on there way with a rebuild right now, instead they really have no one good coming up, and no pick next year either. However, with Kessel, Boston beats Philly in the playoffs last year. At least it should work out for them in the long run though.

In the words of Carey Price, chill out guys.. one 4 point preseason game does not make one a superstar, especially considering Dan Ellis played like a beer league goalie.
Kadri has clearly not looked ready, but a season in ahl should get him there. Seguin mind you has not looked all that great in training camp either. Schenn, who's been the forgotten man on the leafs played lights out last night against the flyers. His foot speed needs work but he looks more confident with the puck and looks ready to take the next step.
The leafs have a lot more talent coming up than people give them credit for. Mckegg was an absolute steal in the 3rd round. Ross looked really good in rookie camp. Holzer and Mueller look solid. Damigo is gonna be a good one too. Versteeg is a guy we would have never went for had we not gone for Kessel as well. So ya we keep fuckin up our long term plans by dealing away picks but the team will make playoffs, book it.

MP looked like garbage last night. Hat trick, assist and a post. I think Phil, Jas and I still have wood from that game. Pretty sure I'm getting a new MP jersey on Sunday.

Don't get me wrong I was salivating when mps fell to us at the draft, thinking 100% burke was gonna grab him, knowing hes good at scouting swedes. But i still think Kadri is gonna be a good one. He simply needs to get bigger and not be the biggest hog of alltime.

I'm pretty confident the Oilers will screw up at least one of MP, Eberle, or Hall. They always do.
MP played well last night, but Dan Ellis basically scored the first goal for him. Hall was invisable a times.

Yeah, not a lot of chemistry between Hall, Hemsky and Gagner. Hall had a goal and a post, but otherwise invisible. I'll take that every single night. MP was ridiculous. Eberle was invisible last night.
If two of those three turn out, that's a pretty good return.
Top six look pretty good. Hall, Eberle, MP, Hemsky, Penner, Horcoff. Yes Horcoff. Big bounceback this year. Lighter, faster, better looking.
Gagner and Hemsky on the PK was pretty exciting.

It's going to be a long 15 years or so as a NHL Flames fan - Thank God for the JHL Flames!

I seriously think almost any GM in this league could have done a better job managing the Flames over the last 6-8 months.
However, I also think that the free pass the Oilers are getting is ridiculous. You don't go into a season at max cap, then finish at the bottom of the standings, and consider that a successful season because they got Hall. The media "experts" drive me crazy some times.

I know they were playing the Canucks B team last night, but Eberle is ridiculous. Omark looked ridiculous too. Trying to figure out which of the three the Oilers are ruining. I'd say Hall. He only has three points in two games. Pretty weak if you ask me.
If only the Oilers could carry the preseason points forward. I'm sure they'll give up a shit ton of goals, but they'll be pretty fun to watch. Take out Moreau, O'Sullivan, Pisani, Staios and plug in Eberle, Hall, Paajarvi. Much more exciting. I think those four guys were a combined -834 last year.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4XklsJYK9g. Boing! And Omark's not even one of the top-3 rookies on the team. Every game the Oilers play next year will result in double digits on both ends: 10-10 shootout win every game. Can't wait to watch them this year!

Give it time, they took a couple of years to ruin Schremp, and they are in the process of destroying Cogliano (may have already been done) and Gagner.

Schremp had attitude problems from day one. Talent yes, but a real piece of shit. Gagner rode Kane's coattails, maybe not the best use of a high draft pick. He still could develop, he's pretty young still. Don't know that Cogliano was ever expected to produce a point a game like he did in college. Just the new Marchant. Can't really make chicken salad out of chicken shit. He's looking like the third line centre here this year. Still pretty young.

everyone knows cogs doesnt have the hands but is super fast. No one was expecting cogs to be a 1st line center. 3rd line is fine and he will be ok there. Gagner is only 21..... 68 15 26 41 last year. Nothing wrong with that especially what they went through last year. This year easy 60 points.
But i wont say anything yet...it will be interesting to see what happens. Come back to this mid season.
Ohhh Darren i still got wood from Eberles goal short side the other night. Damnnnn Mr. Clutch.
