So, now that trading is done for this season, what do you guys think were the best and worst trades of the year? Retrospectively of course, but any trade on jghl.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=Trades&action=display&thread=3274&page=1Is valid for this conversation. I'd like to nominate one of my own trades to get the ball rolling To Chicago: Mike Smith To New York Islanders: Chi 4th 2011 (Logan Shaw) A 4th for a goalie thats going to be a around a 70+ OV starter next year only making 3.5m. I seriously lucked out on this one.

Quickly looking at the list...
To ANA: Ville Leino and FLA 2013 4th Rounder
To FLA: Marc-Edouard Vlasic
Leino's salary gives him negative value IMO.
To Edmonton: Ryan McDonagh, Michal Rozsival
To Philly: Antoine Vermette
Vermette isn't a bad player, but McDonagh is on the verge of being Norris worthy.
To Panthers: Alex Burrows and Joffrey Lupul
To Sharks: Ales Hemsky and Josh Bailey
Really this isn't even close. This is the worst trade of the year. At least in the above trades the teams got something decent back... at the time I thought Burrows and Lupul would both put up 50 points. Even under those expectations, it was a bad trade.

I'd have to say this is the worst trade... To Toronto: Martin St. Louis To San Jose: Travis Zajac and Chris Pronger While St.Louis isn't having a season like the past couple, he's still putting up some very decent numbers. Pronger and Zajac are still laying in hospital beds! Best trade... To Oilers: Mark Scheifele To Flames: Alexander Semin haha! just kidding! while the Smith trade is probably the best, the deal I like most is To ANA: Tomas Fleischmann and NJ 2011 #4 To NJD: Erik Cole both players emerged virtually equall as the season went on...

In a couple of months that trade looks like Zajac for nothing... which I like.

I'm happy to wait a couple of seasons for Zajac to get back into the line up. Look at what other rentals were traded for... Shane Doan only got a 2nd round pick in return, Edmonton couldn't get anything for Pronger, you couldn't get anything for Vrbata or Koivu... so I think I did pretty well.

I just counted them and I made 24 trades this season - wow. It's hard for me to analyze individual deals as so many were made with future trades in mind and a lot of the players I traded for are no longer on the Canucks roster.
I'd definitely like to have this one back: To New Jersey: Niklas Kronwall
To Vancouver: Milan Jurcina Dustin Jeffrey NJ # 2 2012
Ron might have got the better of me on that one, but I did turn Jurcina into a 2nd rounder, so even that didn't work out too bad.
My two favorite trades of the season were this one: To Toronto: Justin Williams Ian Cole
To Vancouver: Ryan O'Reilly T.J. Galiardi NJD #2 2011
and this one:
To St. Louis: Tom Gilbert
To Vancouver: Zac Dalpe Jeff Petry
I think, long-term, I'll end up faring pretty well on both of those deals.

To Edm: Dwayne Roloson Vaclav Prospol
To Philly: Jonathon Blum Steve Sullivan Ryan Miller
I wanted to dump Miller and his 8.1 million owed next year along with his terrible .900 save percentage. I figured I'd be able to sign another goalie in the off-season that rated better than what Miller would re-rate. Except he hasn't let in a goal in a month, and like someone tweeted during the game last night, he could save everyone on the Titanic. For some reason, Roloson is awful on my team, and was even before I traded everyone away. At least I freed up the cap space!

I would say you called it right, problably one of my best deals this season. He's not only keepin Buffalo in the race, but he has been unbelievable for me, since that deal. Played in 18 straight gms. 13 - 3 - 1 over that period. Pct.919 - 2.10 GAA Over the last 8 gms his GAA is 1.25 Probably should be the JGHL Player of the Month. It's always a gamble, still a nice salary dump for Edm for FA. I got lucky, and at 8mil he could end up a bargain

He should rerate OK but not at numbers he is at now, but with Blum and Miller, it is big Philly way.

I think cap space is pretty under rated. Edmonton got 8 million in cap space and he could sign a pretty good UFA with that in the off season. Edmonton doesn't really need a starter with Rask.
It would have been an even trade if Blum wasn't involved. Since he was, Ray wins the deal. Blum is a pretty decent prospect.

Speaking of cap space, I only have 15.3m in committed salary next season, thats 41.7m in cap space to sign players. I have a few 1 year contracts that need re-upping as RFAs (most under 24). I figure I'll have at worst, 35-37m in space for player bidding. And I have my eye on a few names Trading Tanguay and Lydman gave me an additional 4.3m I wouldn't have had otherwise. Oh, AND I traded a Vezina trophy for a 2nd round pick

Dont forget that 4.7 of salary you have on the farm gav!
Just took a look at my own situation, not quite as rosy as yours, with around 30 comitted (inc. farm) for next season.
I did just come across some great news, in that Nittymaki will come off the books (if only temporarily) next year as he hasnt played a game yet this year. Huge $3 million mistake washed away by his own ineptitude!
