The Studs
The Studs
Jakub Vrana
Andreas Johnsson
Max Lajoie
Max Lajoie
Henri Jokiharju
Erik Brannstrom
Rasmus Sandin
Andrew Mangiapane
Jack Studnicka
Jake Leschyshyn
Josh Brook
Aleksi Heponiemi
These guys have been sticking out for me so far this season. Vrana and Johnsson (who i found out got a concussion while i was writing this...yikes) both have similar point totals and clearly are thriving on top teams like the Leafs and Caps. Jokiharju has been preforming well on a struggling black hawks team and Lajoie wasn't even supposed to be in the league this year, let alone have 13 points, but that -18 needs to improve. In the lower leagues guys like Brannstrom and Sandin have been doing really well with their AHL clubs. Mangiapane is over point per game but just cant seem to stay up with the flames. In the CHL guys like Studnika, Leschyshyn and Brook have been impressive, all being above a point per game. Across the pond Heponiemi is having himself a good season in Liiga and also had a good showing at the World Juniors.
Also shout outs to Thatcher Demko for finally getting his time with the Canucks (Hopefully he stays) and to Michael Dal Colle for finally showing signs of life (Sure he hasn't gotten a lot of points in the big league but that point per game pace in the AHL was more than i thought id get this season so hopefully hes getting his footing).
The Duds (Kind of)
Casey Mittlestadt
Julius Honka
Petrus Palmu
Now i cant say that these guys a really duds yet because the oldest one on the list is 23. But I kinda bought into the hype for Mittlestadt and for him to only have 14 points isn't fantastic for me. Honka is a similar situation where I've been waiting for him to get a consistent spot on the stars and he just hasn't proven enough yet, so hopefully that changes soon. Finally Palmu is only disappointing because he didn't really get a chance to prove himself with Utica this season and got loaned back to Finland, While playing there may help his development, i was really looking forward to seeing what he could accomplish in the AHL this season.

All in all lots of pros and cons. The future is in motion for the Red Wings and with the possible #1 pick on the way the rebuild could turn around sooner rather than later.
