After announcing a new GM yesterday the JGHL Islanders are announcing a few more changes.
First we would like to thank the previous management for all their hard work as well as both coaches who have been let go in changeover. We appreciate the work they did and look forward to building on their legacy.
That said changes needed to be made and the first we would like to announce is the hiring of two new coaches for our Pro and farm team.
First Bill Peters will be taking over the Pro team and we are excited about what he brings to the team. He has NHL experience including some great work early on in Calgary and we believe that will translate to the JGHL.
With the farm team we have decided to reach back into the illustrious past of the NY Islanders and bring back a legend in Butch Goering. Not only will he be a great coach but a great ambassador for the organization.
With the new coach we wanted to announce the naming of Dan Hamhuis as the captain of the team with assistants Kyle Turris and Kris Russell. All 3 bring a wealth of experience and we look forward to them leading us into the future.
It is exciting times in the JGHL Islanders organization and we anticipate more announcements with more positive news for our club in the coming weeks.

Well changes were bound to be made with the new GM coming in and the first move is a huge one, the Isles are happy to welcome in Kevin Labanc to the organization!
After watching his team manage a meager 9 shots on net in a whole game last week it was clear we need an upgrade on offense, nevermind the fact we gave up 41 shots the next game the defense is just fine!. So the team moved out steady, but offense black hole Adam Pelech and are bringing in the young set up man Labanc to try and kick start our offense.
We wish Adam the best of luck going forward and are sorry to let him go but unfortunately Eug was not willing to go for the Labanc for nothing offer that I preferred so we had to move on to a more "fair" offer.

Labanc subsequently gets a hat trick against the Oilers (in the alternate universe NHL, that is). Not bad!

Well hopefully people realize the power of the JGHL.
Labanc was excited about his move to the JGHL Islanders and we see the results in the NHL.

Well another JGHL season is in the books and this time the NYI have chosen not to participate in the play-offs so their season has ended early.
After a fairly pedestrian first half of the season everything happened on February 1st with the announcement of GM Scott Mooney taking over the running of the team and changing the coach staff at the JGHL and farm levels. Planning on making huge changes, GM Mooney quickly looked at his roster and realized there was nobody on it anyone wanted. The one move he made seemed to have worked out, for both teams as Pelech is a defensive rock for TO, as Lebanc has fit in on the top line being one of the teams top scorers in the 2nd half (imagine how good he would have done if he Gm knew how to spell his name correctly.)
While the GM did not make the splash on the roster he wanted he certainly made a splash on the boards with his sizzling hot takes in the play-off thread. He has been appropriately admonished by team management and will attempt to conduct himself in a more professional manner going forward, but based on past performances I would not hold my breath on this one!
Overall it was a great return to the JGHL and I look forward to a great off season. The draft will be exciting for the NYI with a likely top (and perhaps favorite!) prospect coming to town with their 1st round pick.
Good luck to all in the play-offs, even those dastardly Raptors, and lets get ready for a crazy off season of trades and signings once we finally get the play-offs out of the way.
