For me I think just Trocheck got moved. Carolina made some solid additions IMO with Skeji and Trocheck. They are looking dangerous. The Flames sure could have used him.
Flames talk-
I think fans are a bit hard on Treliving. A lot of people are saying sell sell sell, but I’m happy we have a GM that doesn’t listen to the whims of the fans. The team was 2nd in the league last year and is having an off year. Sometimes you just have to weather the storm and wait for your guys to come back around. The margin between success and failure in this league is so fine that teams can easily find solutions from within and come storming back the next season. Look at teams like San Jose, Tampa etc over the last 5-10 years. They have both put up dud seasons and fortunately those teams GMs did not blow them up. The Flames don’t need to stand pat, always seek to improve, but they should not trade away Gaudreau or Monahan (Although I am tempted by the latter as well right now).
Treliving has closed a couple of trades that would have helped the flames, but they were nixed at no fault to his own (Kadri and Zucker). He has made some dumb moves, but I think his drafting, RFA signings, and the Lindholm trade massively outweigh those errors.
I like the Forbort trade though. Low risk, high reward. If he gets back to preinjury form it will be a solid trade for the flames.
I don’t really care about Gustafsson, I guess we’ll see if he produces offensively. It seems like his season last year was a major outlier compared to the rest of his career. I think it’s interesting how the JGHL values him vs the NHL.
Trelivings main down fall yesterday was not trading Brodie. I know there were concerns about moving him and the flames playoffs up goes down the drain but I don’t really buy that. IMO unless you have an actual chance at the cup, you trade valuable pending UFAs to continue to build your team.
