Either Swedish defensemen named Rasmus suck (Sandin hasn't done much either), or Buffalo is a talent black hole. “The Buffalo Sabres have gotten goals from Rasmus Asplund, Rasmus Dahlin, and Rasmus Ristolainen tonight vs the New Jersey Devils to complete the Rasmus hat trick.” Ha!

How are we feeling about that Mantha deal Mike? Im not mike, but i feel like that was a good deal for you guys? Vrana is pretty good and who cares about the cap space that panik takes up. Thought it was great personally.

It'll be interesting to see if it helps or hurts vrana. I think Mantha could blow up if the put him on a good line. LA is going to be pleased!
I trust Yzerman big time, thought he hit a home run

I'm so happy to hear Mantha is going to play with more veterans and Stanley Cup winners, thought he was dying very slowly in Detroit. I'm actually a Rangers fan but a Mantha supporter I don't know if that trade would go through in the J but Detroit has ALWAYS been good at drafting and those 2 high picks they got, they'll get another Mantha for sure...

I don’t really get that one from Washington’s perspective... Vrana must not be highly thought of there. Vranas production from a statistical standpoint this year doesn’t seem sustainable, but I just don’t see that being worth a 1st and 2nd rounder.

Thought it was great personally. Some tidy work by Yzerman and crew. Mantha should be good on the Caps but nice haul by Wings. At least it wasn't on the Erat-Forsberg scale...

I really like Mantha and wanted him in Calgary, prior to us collapsing and now needing a complete rebuild, but that is a great return for Detroit.

How are we feeling about that Mantha deal Mike? My God is Yzerman the MAN or what?! Mantha - first of all Caps are getting a great player. As someone who owns a Mantha jersey we will definitely miss him, but you could tell this season he didn't really have that motivation to bring it every night. He has everything to be a 50 goal scorer, so hopefully the trade will rejuvenate him. I fear for him though as the hype of him coming into Washington and then him not meeting expectations could really mess with him mentally. Time will tell but great investment for Washington. Now for us - Vrana is a player who everytime I have watched Washington I've said to myself "God this kid looks good." His favorite player is my favorite player (Pavel Datsyuk) and I think he could be a really good fit here and quickly become a fan favorite. When I first saw the trade I thought Vrana was the best player in the deal, but I think Mantha has the ability to drive play by himself, even if he doesn't do it every play, which makes it so that Mantha is still the best player of the deal. We have the cap room for Panik so no big deal, and then a 1st and a 2nd? Absolute genius by Yzerman for making this what it was. My non biased opinion is that Mantha will bring great secondary scoring for Caps, but probably won't eclipse 30 goals in a campaign like Caps fans think he will. Yzerman is really loading up on assets and I think he is aiming for a big signing or a big offseason trade. I'm thinking Werenski from Blue Jackets might be coming home to Michigan to reunite with his college buddy Larkin is my guess. Rant over!

I think a new scene was needed for both players which was probably the case. If I had to guess initial trade offer to Yzerman was Vrana and a 2nd, for Mantha and retained salary, but Mantha has a good amount of control on his contract that Yzerman told GMGM to up the bid

I really like Mantha and wanted him in Calgary, prior to us collapsing and now needing a complete rebuild, but that is a great return for Detroit. I used to think Calgary just needed to stick to their guns and be patient, but ya now I'm definitely leaning to complete rebuild. I'm not sure how a team can fluke their way to a 2nd overall finish a few years ago, but that season is looking like the outlier season now (the 15th-25th overall seasons are looking more like the norm). I still like Treliving as GM though. His drafting and trades for the most part have been quite good, and I think he finally had a decent free agency with Tanev and Markstrom. Overall I'd trust him to manage the rebuild.

If Yzerman is the MAN, then Fletcher is the class clown... The Flyers have been playing like crap most of the season, and he hasn't done anything to try and shake things up. But then again, he did not have that great of a record when he was in Minnesota. AV is no better; of all the games I have watched, he does not appear to be able to motivate the players, or even figure out why they suck so much. I REFUSE TO believe that all of this poor play is because Niskanen retired. He is NOT and was NOT the best Dman that ever lived... At this point, I can't wait for the season to be over, and I HOPE TO GOD that this crappy season has not hurt Carter Hart's confidence for the rest of his career.
