After suffering a heartbreaking loss in game 6 of last year's finals to the overpowering Flames, the mood in the Leafs club house this off season has been uncertain to say the least. Losing 2 of their top 4 defensemen from last season's heroic run, Leafs management knew that making another run this season would be improbable, with several teams in the East loading up on talent, and the scary fact that the defending champs will still be as big a force as last season.
Change has been floating around the club house for months, and is now finally taking effect. With the shipping of underachieving winger Patrick Elias to the Canucks for a package that included rising star TJ Hensick, manager Sorokin took the first steps to reshaping the face of the Leafs. With the trade of Sheldon Souray, Mathieu Schneider's time with the Leafs was about to come to an end. With the latest move, the Leafs will be looking to draft a first class player at #7, hoping to add another piece to the team's core.
No matter what happens in the next few months, according to GM Sorokin, the first line for the upcoming season is set in stone, and will represent the "new look" for years to come,

The fates of Jaromir Jagr, Ryan Smyth, Mike Knuble, Sean Avery, Cory Sarich, and even star goalie JS Giguere, have yet to be determined by the Leafs management, and according to GM Sorokin, "They know what's up. I don't need to tell 'em. Now get that camera out of my face, jackass"
