me and my friend were talking about this the other night, and we had pretty good arguments, both making solid points.. which one player would you pick to build your team around today? aka who would be your franchise guy. my answer was a little boring (ovechkin) because its obvious, i think hes the perfect hockey specimen, but id like to hear some other cases aside from the obvious choices like crosby and ovechkin.. lets hear it for the thorntons and iginlas out there.. anyways what do you guys say? i want backup arguments too lol.

Although strong leadership and skill is important, I doubt you'd ever truely want to build a team around a forward in most cases. I tend to build from the back out in most cases, goalie being the most important position to build around in most cases. Hard to tell which goalie at this point, so many rookies in the playoffs, and Brodeur is starting to age a bit. Ask me 3 years ago, Brodeur, and probably still him today truely. But I prefer to pick goalies myself, as long as a great one currently exists.

For me it would be a top Center, a Joe Thornton type, and surround him with good pc forwards to help keep him out of the sin bin.

For me, I would have to go back in time and get my All-Time FAV- Bobby Orr!!!!! LOL
But a Thornton type would be nice to start with, especially now that he is playing at his potential!
See you all next week!
