I'll let Gavin know, when he gets up later, it may be accidently locked. I was able to vote on the other trade, and didn't choose to vote on the Sundin deal as yet.

The "Sundin" deal has votes on it, so it is not locked.
The forum seems a bit slow today, I'd try again if you are having problems, but there are 3 votes on it, if 1 person can vote on it, everyone else should be able to.

IMO it would have been wise to wait to see if Sundin even plays this season

IMO it would have been wise to wait to see if Sundin even plays this season To comment on this issue.. Buffalo has waited on me for a few months now, becuase i did want to see what he was going to do. I'm banking that at least he says that this year is a write-off and he continues either in january or next season or he comes back now.... anything other than retiring. Yes .. i agree, it is a big risk to take and it could turn out to be a very bad decision if he does retire... But the way i look at it, the deal for me isnt so bad because of those risks. Honestly, I'ml ooking at it as only losing the free resign and the first rounder in 2009. If it works out, he definitely puts me over as somewhat of an offensive threat. Like i said, big risk, but i think its time i took a big risk. I want to make the playoffs this season.

no worries he has a lot left in him....sure he doesnt want to leave toronto..but he's not going to retire too early...has too many teams wanting him for him not to play atleast a year or two..but he shouldnt make these teams wait for him...loss of interest then lol

This trade doesn't seem to be one that has one guy gutting his team to help a buddy out. It won't cripple the Panthers if Sundin retires and make them an unattractive team to a new GM. It isn't crazily one-sided either.
It is a risky deal that may or may not work out.
Are we now using the trade vote to veto any deals with some risk to them?
There have been other deals that passed that have been much worse than this one.
I think people have to remember not to vote no just because you wouldn't make the deal but only if the deal looks to be unfair and I can't see how this is an unfair deal.
Hopefully, the votes come through to pass the deal and both teams get to do what they think is best for their teams.

theres nothing wrong with this deal IMO.. its the exact same as if someone traded niedermayer or selanne at the same point last season.. youre allowed to move the roster player for as long as you have him.. its all about whats the most you can get for them.. its a good deal for buffulo tho

What is wrong with this deal. Last i checked Sundin hasn't made a descion on his future. So he is still an active roster player and an impact player for whatever team he plays for. If he decides to retire, then so be it. It was a risk that florida made and he was fully aware of the consequences. Plus lets not forget that esposito is no longer a penguins prospect, he's a thrasher prospect, so i think that brings his stock down a little bit. And who knows how the picks will turn out. Adding Mats Sundin will not make the florida panthers stanley cup favorites. Adding Esposito will not make buffalo stanley cup favorites. This isn't giving either team a distinct advantage over the other teams in the league a shot at winning it all. Whoever got the impression that florida and buffalo are buddies? Dropped the ball on that one. I voted yes, what did you vote? and why?

Mats Sundin will not make the florida panthers stanley cup favorites. Damn, I think those is fightin' words! I will admit I voted no. I just felt it was a lot to give up for an uncertainty. There is still alot of time between now and when we will start our season, I don't understand why someone wouldn't wait for a decision for such an impact player. However, after reading all the posts in regards to the trade, I would like to change my vote to yes.

I voted YES, because like others have said, these guys know what they are doing and Florida ( Kevin) is experience and knows what he is doing. Maybe if he waited and Sundin made decision and someone else approached Buff for him. So he pulled trigger now. He is taking a chance but it is his choice and if Sundin comes back, it is a good deal for him and could be the piece to put Florida in playoffs this coming season.

I'm glad now I was for some reason unable to vote yesterday. I voted "YES" as well after reading some of the discussions here and thinking about it further. Myself & Kevin have talked plenty regarding various trade options and I definitely know he he has a good "hockey head", if ya know what I mean...lol...Seriously though, I see what he's trying to do and the rationale makes sense. I'd give give Buff the edge here for the long term of course, but Kevin still has a great youthful core, plus he wants to be more competitive right away.

Just to let the traders know, Buf and Tor trade 11-0 to pass.

SJ/Monty trade....really really bad. The 1st pick alone isn't worth that guy, he isn't terrible, but he'll be lucky to make the NHL at all, much less become an impact player.
