Another building year for the Blackhawks, but overall it should be a stronger season than last year.
Coming into Free Agency this year, the Blackhawks were tight on salary and had some holes to fill, mainly on defense after the loss of Paul Ranger and the late season player losses to trades and contract.
Chicago started with a trade with Nashville, acquiring Andy Greene for Josh Harding. The Blackhawks then aggressively went after and signed Toni Lydman to a 3 year, 2m a year deal. This secured the defense for the season.
Chicago's lineup should look something like this for the coming season.
LW-C-RW
Tavares - Belanger - Stempniak Upshall - Langkow - Wheeler Ruutu - Filppula - Grier Booth - Brassard - Grabner (the DU line)
Seidenberg - White Green - Lydman Jones - Meszaros
Thomas Niemi
Chicago should be in good shape next year when it gets bigger contributions from Brassard, Grabner, Ellerby, Filppula, Booth, and possibly Lindgren. Also interested to see how Tavares performs his sophomore year.
