Kind of a slow first day. Not too many bids.
The bid on Keith Ballard kind of surprised me! But I guess if you snipe guys while they are rated low, compensation will be pretty low. There are some other interesting RFAs out there...

There are some other interesting RFAs out there... I think a lot of people like to sit back the first day or two and see who goes after who and for how much. We all know by now that being the first bid @ 500k on a decent player isn't going to make it all the way through. So I think people may hold off until the bidding is "real".

I prefer the "go big right away" approach myself I just have no money. I don't see the point in bidding 500K on a 70 OV player... or even 3 million. I liked how Monty bid $7 million right away on Chara and Marleau. Same with Calgary bidding 8 million on Iginla... and Anaheim bidding 6 million on Briere. I know those bids are unlikely to hold (some have already been out-bid)... but at least they are realistic.

I've always been a fan of that myself Jake I think bidding overall will pickup a lot more tomorrow, being the first weekend of FA and all.

We had 2 GMs, Nashville and Pittsburgh both exceed their spending limits today. Please keep a closer eye on your available money

Not surprised about Marleau getting ten million. IMO Doan willl end up getting over 7 million too.
Really surprised the high bid on Boyle right now is 3.5 million and Visnovsky isn't getting much attention either.
Surprisingly there doesn't seem to be much interest in Kiprusoff/Backstrom, even though several teams really need a goalie.

I think the bidding has been just right, for the players involved, back and forth bidding not the way to go imo, we have lot's of time, back and forth bidding just drives up prices. If we all land 2-3 players we really want, that's doin good.

I'm also surprised the goalies aren't getting more bids in general.
I'm a bit concerned we still have a few GMs that have yet to place a bid.
