After spending the end of last season trimming some fat off our roster and re-stocking the talent pool, the Detroit Red Wings are once again back for another title run!
After some thrifty spending during free agency to add some impact players such as Brendan Morrison (1.75mil), Ed Jovanovski (2mil) and Jan Hejda (4.7mil), a minor move trading a draft pick for defensive stalwart Francois Beauchemin, the wings are very pleased with the look of their roster for the upcloming season. However there were two moves that really put everything over the top...
1. Trading for all-star goalie and future hall of famer, Martin Broduer.
2. The best move in the history of the franchse, the acquisition of franchise defenseman Drew Doughty!
Losing a player like Pavelski was not easy, but with our center depth of Krejci, Spezza and Koivu it made no sense having one of them burried on the 4th line. But the reward was much greater than the loss, as there are not many players you can say you would NEVER trade, but Doughty is one of the few.
We were also able to move Tyutin (who would have been our 7) in return for a winger with a little scoring punch in Huselius, while gaining a 2nd round pick for next year that we're more than optomistic will return a 1st round player.

We feel we have a fantastic balance of attributes on our first 3 lines, and enough talent in Bergenheim and Cogliano on the 4th line to keep our other wingers fresh from not having to double-shift. Our defense is easily one of the most solid in the league and with a top 5 goalie we feel we are easily one of the top contenders in the west. Now it's time to drop the puck and see what actually happens!
