I think with the first pick if the guy doesn't show up he just gets the first pick from NHL.
Way too much of a blow to the team to have them miss the pick completely.
But I understand that rules are rules and it has been clearly stated when the draft times were and that a list could be sent in prior to draft.

Yeah, im not really sure what we do. He might have a good reason, he might not, but that pick is REALLY important to a franshise like his.

I agree with Tampa, I don't think he should just miss the pick. It would really hurt the team. Just like the Islanders last season.
I am sick of seeing this however, so I think there should be a penalty. Maybe move it to 5th overall or something?

I feel bad for the Sabres, but should we have different rules because it's the first overall pick? Maybe the 6th pick is just as important to another team or the 17th.

I completely understand this rationale, but its just like with vetoing trades, we only do it where it affects competitive blanace, and for a team like his it certainly will. Getting a top 5 pick isnt terrible, but I think we can agree that Yak is the clear top talent. I would trade a decent piece to move up 2 spotss......

I think we should have different rules for the first pick yes.
I wish there was a way to punish the GM without punishing the team but skipping this pick seems to only result in the possibility of the Sabres GM leaving and the team being very unattractive to new GM's.
If we have the trade vote to help ensure a standard of operating in the league and not have teams killed by GM's who then leave then I think we should take considerations when it comes to the 1st pick as well.
That said it is maddening that a pick wasn't made and that a list wasn't sent it. Hopefully this reminds people that sending a list is not a bad idea if there is some chance something may come up.

I agree with this, as I just really found out this morning and maybe his head is all screwed up like mine.... But maybe he should get the NHl first because odds are that is what he would have picked plus team can use it

I also realize that by being vocal on this I am now almost assuredly going to miss my picks and forget to send in a list! ;D

Argh...not sure what to say - SabresGM did PM me about a trade talk we were having...as others said with 1st overall selection, you would make a concerted effort more than most to ensure you know when the draft was going down... However, on the other side of the coin, penalizing the GM tremendously hurts this franchise moving forward... Not sure what to say about best solution...I don't think there is one... Times can be confusing, but we should all new stuff goes down in the league in centre of the universe timezone (EST) It can be confusing though if you're brain is not firing on all cylinders and you see in the forum that the time is your local time...not sure that is enough for legit excuse though...

Last year, for the good the NYI Franchise, we gave that team the NHL first overall pick.
The situation is similar here for sure, and I'd prefer to not just skip the pick completely because of how much it hurts the franchise overall. But there needs to be accountability for not being responsible enough to make your pick in a timely manner.

He traded up to get the #1. I'm pretty sure he didn't trade for the #1 to jump the board and select Murray or Galchenyuk. 2. We have never had a draft where the #1 in the NHL was not taken as the #1 here. So I'm gonna give him Yak and move on. I don't think there should be any objections. And trust me, nobody would like to skip his pick more than me, and I'm not happy about this at all! Here Here Jon...stand up guy as ever! And so true as you got the most to gain here I think....

Can't imagine anyone can have an issue with this especially since it is you who is most affected by it.
