Chicago went into this off-season with one simple question, were we close enough? After many discussions with Coach Chelios, the choice was made that we simply were not close enough to seriously contend for the cup. Below is the result, a fair shake up and re-structuring of the roster that puts our team in a solid position for the future.
Out this off-season: Pekke Rinne - UFA, 2 years, 6 mil. Brent Seabrook - UFA, 3 years, 5 mil. Eric Staal - UFA, 4 years (after new contract), 4 mil. Robyn Regehr - UFA, 1 year, 4 mil. Marco Scandella - We mourn your loss, RFA, 9 years, 1.5 mil CHI 2nd 2015 (41st) CHI 4th 2015 (93rd)
Total Salary - 20.5 million Total Contract Years Available - 19 years (Picks counted as zero)
In this off-season: James Neal - RFA, 6 years, 4 mil Jordie Benn - RFA, 7 years, 500k Vladsliav Namestnikov - RFA, 12 years, 500k Chris Tierney - RFA, 14 years, 500k Steve Mason - RFA, 8 years, 2.750 mil Mark McNeill - Prospect, ~8-10 years, 0. Alex Nedeljkovic - Prospect WSH 2nd 2015 (28th) WSH 2nd 2016 (?) FLA 3rd 2016 (?)
Total Salary - 8.25 million Total Contract Years Available - 39 years (Picks counted as zero)
Chicago is now much younger with an already strong young core in Zibanejad, Saad, Little, Pearson, Josi, Barrie, and Leddy, Chicago will have a strong roster for years to come.
