What is going on in Tampa? Bust! Jks, but not really. He's been given lots or room to grow and so far has been pretty irrelevant. On a related note, I think Steve Y has been getting a reality check. Mishandling St Louis and the Olympics debacle, whatever is going on with Stamkos talks, Drouin, Vasilevski.. Though I will say the team has suffered major injury setbacks this season with TJ and Palat, so they should still emerge as a playoff threat.

Seems like a Russian only club over there. My boy Vlad isn't having any issues.

I admittedly was enamoured with Drouin in his draft year, but I'm baffled by this scenario. In the NHL Flames organization, it is well known to fans, media, players their motto is "always earned, never given". Drouin should be letting his on ice play do the talking. Not his agent. I'm not sure if Alan Walsh simply giving him bad advice or if he's driving this himself. Would like to know more on both sides before jumping to conclusions, but from what is presented, I don't like it one bit. Do you think this player entices the right teams to want you?? Go out and use that talent to play unbelievably and earn your spot... *mic drop*

I think the problem in the Drouin situation and the Vasilevskiy situation, to a certain extent, is that Yzerman was raised on the Red Wings system of "overcooking" their prospects in the minors before bringing them to the NHL.
That works in the Detroit system because they were not dealing with elite draft prospects. It's alot easier to tell a guy drafted in the 20's we are going to develop you in the minors than it is to tell a Top 5 pick the same thing. These guys are the best of the best because, in part, they have the ego to think they are that good. Drouin looks around and all the guys drafted with him and a lot drafted after him are already big time contributors to their NHL teams and says to himself, what's wrong with this picture.
The Red Wing approach works with lower ranked prospects, but not elite prospects. The Islanders had a similar dust-up with Strome earlier in the year. Even the Red Wings threw their traditional approach away to a certain extent with Dylan Larkin. You just don't want to mess with the elite guys development by playing them against inferior competition or pissing them off.

What is the vasilievsky situation? This is the first I'm hearing of him having issues? As for drouin I feel like he should be more understanding of his development. Mackinnon had 60+ points in his rookie season and drouin had half of that the year after And was struggling to score again this year. sending him down for a confidence boost is what every GM would do not just Stevie Y. I also feel like drouin is letting his agent do too much of the talking here and that some of the negative outlook toward him now is because of the way his agent is Handleing it and not what he's actually said.

I've gotta say I don't have as much a problem with this as others. They guy is talented and his team context doesn't allow him enough IT to show his stuff. He wants to play and develop and there's no opportunity for him to to that on a squad stacked with top 6 talent.
He requested the trade behind the scenes ( and the lightning could have decided at that point they'd rather play him than trade him) and Stevie did nothing. IMO this is clearly yzermans fault, cause even if drouin is a whiney bitch, you trade his ass while the value is sky high.

Good points, lads.
Yzerman now likely to have a rougher time dealing him, letting it get to this point. They've (Walsh, Drouin, Yzerman) must have had enough internal discussions to have an idea where this might land. Maybe Yzerman called their bluff and here we are. Who the heck knows. Will be interesting to see how it unfolds from here.
