So how many Canadian defenseman can you think of who are better....
Start with PK Subban I guess! TJ Brodie, Mark Giordano....

PK is right handed and Babcock has been adamant about not playing guys on the wrong side. But even with that I think PK is an awful fit for Canada no matter what did he plays. The team doesn't need his supposed creativity offensively and really, really don't need his boneheaded defensive plays.
I think Brodie is obviously better but I can see the appeal of throwing Bouwmeester there with Pietrangelo as an easy pairing. Sweden might have one pairing better if they go OEL-Hedman but other than that there isn't goi g to be a better non-Canada pairing in the tournament so hard for me to complain too much.
Edit- As a Flames fan I don't think Giordano is better than Bouwmeester

Yikes. I was excited when Flames got J-Bo. Then I spent one season trying to rationalize why he'll keep getting better. He didn't. He skates magnificently (JGHL rating does not do justice!!! lol), but does a lot of nothing. Amazed at the offensive production he had in Florida. Can be somewhat effective when he keep things simple, but man, he often plays beyond simple, frustratingly simple. Please Team Canada - reconsider - this guy is NOT a winner. If he wins, he'll be a passenger... Brodie is far superior. I would rather have PK, without hesitation. Scott: did you really just say that...lol (your Edit statement)...oh boy... (And coming from a guy who thinks Gio is slightly overrated, but just a tad...I'd want this guy on my team all day...)

Yes I think Gio is pretty overated.
He is a fine 2nd pairing guy and still can put up good offensive numbers but last year I saw far too many times the other team scoring and Gio turning around to see it was his man standing wide open that just scored.

I think being a "fine 2nd pairing guy who can put up points" is still miles better than Bouwmeester...
Giordano is inconsistent for sure. When he is on I think he is dominant. When he is off he is prone to giveaways. When he just has an "ok" game, I think he is still top pairing. He's physical and offensively dangerous even on a bad day.
Bouwmeester on the other hand is a liability in the offensive zone, while extremely passive on defence.
Brodie is better than all of them though!
