After a cinderella run to game 7 of the JGHL Cup Finals GmGR has decided to take a step back and asses the long term future of the team.
After losing key prospects to chase the cup in likes of Esa Lindell, Miko Rantanen and Rikard Rakell GR decided to ship out some still prime vets in order to build a base around some still young talent. Promising young talent coming in includes Jason Dickson, Devin Shore, Jansen Harkins and Cole Cassels. These additions only add to the Rangers slowly growing stockpile of promising prospects that feature Brenden Guhle and Christian Fischer.
With Ryan Johansen and Braden Holtby Cemented as franchise players the Rangers expect Vincent Trocheck and Adam Larsson to turn the corner within the next 2 years to give the team a really solid core.
With the drastic changes ahead GmGR has made the decision this season to demote Ryan Johansen from captain and pass the honors on to Marian Hossa. When asked about the reasoning behind this GmGR had a simple answer. "Ryan is still very young and growing his game, we wanted him be able to focus on that without adding any extra burden. Hoss is the ultimate professional, his game might be declining but we wanted to reward him by best utilizing what he has to offer and thats leadership." Trevor Daley will be the first assistant, the second has yet to be decided.
With the intention of letting prospects develop the Rangers went out and signed a handful of low risk high reward veterans as well as some promising free agent rookies.
