I was thinking something unplanned must have come up for Al (Ducks), who's around a lot. Given his family emergency, I'd move that we allow him to make his 2nd rnd selection, at the very least at the end of the 2nd round (or even now if time allows), of the remaining picks.

Was also wondering when the first goalie might go, and who it would be. Oilers break the ice and pick Hart...

The concept of the starting times with a half hour window, is too keep someone from holding up the picks for 24hrs, which used to be a problem, cause they were given that time. If we didn't want to move it along, we would just pick at our assigned time. I agree with you, Ray. I would do it in one sitting if we could. But if we set times we can't complain if guys don't make their picks until then. We all have busy lives and sometimes guys don't have the option of picking early.

We don't want to bunch up again, and have another guy miss his pick, when someone makes a mistake. I understand some guys can't always show up at times, that's what lists are for, Jon keeps asking for lists, just in case, but it seems to fall on deaf ears.

Not sure I understand why Al can't make his pick now. It's not to his advantage to pick later in the draft. Al just makes a pick and we put it into his second round slot and move on. I'm sure he's going to steal my player, but that's fine...

LOL But it is all good, it is a good pickup for Edmonton, and who knows, I might go get him at one point in time, if St Louis does not beat me to it... LOL

We have to wait for Jon to show, he'll be here pretty soon. That's his call.

If we are taking opinions of GMs I agree that Al (and really anyone who misses a pick) should be able to chose right away or at worst end of the draft.
If there is something that adds more work to Jon and Gavin then obviously I would defer to them but if not I think if you miss your pick you should be able to make it up whenever you get back on here.
But will say nothing wrong with sending a list to help move the draft along. Yes we have the set times but it would be nice to move a little faster than that. I do realize people have busier lives than I do and things come up but having a list sent in does help to move things along when we get ahead of where we were planned.

Out of fair play and respect, I simply feel, as others do, that we shouldn't penalize Al for this one off. **I actually don't think it should be for all cases when you simply miss a pick. Jon/Gavin have this well organized, so if you anticipate not being around it should be by list. Jon wants engaged GMs. I think having people randomly come in who missed their pick and then pick would be slightly chaotic and cause Jon/Gavin too many headaches... My 20 pesos (or whatever the current exchange rate for 2 cents is...)

I think Al's situation is a special case, and guys who just miss their picks for no good reason shouldn't be given the same courtesy.

Since we've doing this there's been missed picks in every draft (even 1st round) and every single missed pick was moved to the end of the 5th round.
If you guys wants to ignore the two emails I sent out about draft times and missing picks, the posts on the board about draft times and missing picks, the PMs I send out when picks are upcoming and the news fader that states you're on the clock then that's fine, however then next year we'll be moving to lists after the 2nd round, just like it used to be.
With lists it will all be over in a few days and there will be no making up picks if yours is missed.
If and/or when Buffalo misses their pick should they be allowed to select whenever they decide to show up?
I'm not going to pick and choose who gets to make up a pick when one is missed, it just wouldn't be fair. It's either one way or not.
Maybe someone else can take the burden of deciding who gets a pass and then explaining to them why another GM got to re-pick but they had to wait until the end of the 5th round.
Montreal has the 1st pick in the 3rd, if he doesn't care then Al can pick before Montreal does.
