Such an odd case.
With the juniors he seemed to be the prototypical all round center that seemed to have some leadership, he wasn't just a one dimensional guy like say Eberle.
Then he gets to the NHL and it seems he had zero intangibles, was completely lost defensively and only offered offense, and not that much offense at that.
I know there are lots of stories about his dad being a grade A "hockey parent" and tough to deal with so I wonder if that coupled with things coming a little to easy from 18-20 meant he did not put the work in necessary to go from star in junior to star in the NHL. The talent was there for sure but he just couldn't put it together enough to make an impact at the NHL level.
