Hey all,
So if you don't know already, the Detroit Red Wings are my favorite team. They have been ever since the moment I was born in 1991. I joined the world, and instantly was a fan. Don't ask about the logistics of this.
This thread will be almost like an emotional journal of sorts. Please feel free to comment and join me on this journey through their season. It is going to be a rough one...or is it?
I'm still a believer. I think they have some of the tools to succeed, and their potential is off of the charts. If we could just fire Blashill already that would be a joy.
Current mood? We are on a 2 game winning streak. Howard is playing some of the best goal-tending I have seen out of him in the last 4 years. Larkin is a man possessed (will be rated 75 or higher in JGHL next year book it).
So I'm happy. Playoff run starts now!!!

I've seen and remembered 4 stanley cups in my life time, I really can't be upset. I was 25 and the Red Wings had a 25 year playoff streak....think about that!!

so in your opinion how was Michael Rasmussen been playing?? Moose! In these last 2 games, Ras has been a force. Using his body more, showing off his soft hands, and he's been a huge presence on the powerplay, not only as a net front, but as a set up man. I think the coaching staff has been telling him to just shoot the flipping puck, because he's been putting it on net more. I think he is still getting used to the pace of the NHL, and the coaching staff sat him a few games so he could get a "birds eye view" of the game, and he came back and told the media that it really helped him a lot. I think he is sincere with that statement as you can tell in his play now. He hasn't been playing too much center, he's been learning the game on the Wing, but with recent injuries we might see him fill the center role sooner than anticipated. The most important thing about the Ras situation, they are committed to him. It's no longer just a 10 game stint, it is for real. He would be the best young gun on the team right now if Dennis Cholowski wasn't tearing it up. Seriously, whoever has him in the J, I'll trade for him.

Don't look now, but the Red Wings are flying high and fast. Wins in their last 6 of 7, and 7-3 in their last 10 games, they have definitely turned it up a notch after their abysmal start. It's amazing what you can do when there are not 4 rookie defensemen starting every game. (This does not include Cholowski, he has been amazing. Damn you Aaron, I want him, and should have drafted him!)
Quick hitters from what I have noticed out of players:
De la Rose addition has been great. He is a speedster, plays a 2 way game, and can actually finish unlike stone hands Helm. A+ pickup by Kenny Holland.
Larkin continues to show why he will be the future captain, as he has 9 points in his last 6 games. Athanasiou is back from injury and picked up right where he left off aka scoring goals and being fast. He is not a center though, and needs to be put on the wing and stay there. Larkin and Athanasiou together have been marvelous, and reminds me when Datsyuk and Zetterberg used to play with each other. They should be together - not romantically, but playing on the first line.
The Red Wings have a winning record with Jonathan Ericsson in the lineup, and a losing record without him in the lineup. Maybe he doesn't deserve all the shit that the Wings fan base gives him!?
Lastly Anthony Mantha makes me sad. Has the hands, size, and skill to be a dominant player every night, but it looks like he decides what games he wants to give it his all for. We need to find a way to permanently motivate him.
JGHL Special: Wade Megan my unassigned pickup is looking nice now - He can be an effective bottom 6 player, but when the team gets healthier he will be forced back down to the AHL. Vanek has not looked good in his second stint with the Red Wings, and now is dealing with injury. He should take his time to heal up so he can come back and be an effective player, but if he plays like he did earlier this season, he probably won't get re-signed.

It has been almost one whole month since I've posted in this thread. Surely the Red Wings couldn't keep it up, and you know they would probably have to fall down to Earth and reality right?
WRONG
WRONG
WRONG
Larkin is an absolute stud. Please just name him captain right now, my heart can't take it anymore. As of this exact moment we are 3 points out of a playoff spot. If they had even a remotely decent start to the start of the season (0-7-2 in their first 9 games) we would be flying high in the wild card. These Wings don't look like they are fading any time soon either.
These Red Wings are playing with an edge too. Howard and Rask definitely should have fought (Thanks a lot refs). Bertuzzi is punching guys while he's sitting on the bench - not a smart move, but well, he did get speared. You should know better than to spear a guy with the last name Bertuzzi right?
Jimmy Howard also has been reborn. It's like he knows he's on a contract year in the JGHL, and wants to up his ratings!

Red Wings? More like Dead Wings....
Larkin looks good though. Like real good. A poor mans McDavid!
