For the 2018-19 season, The Ducks are looking to increase their point total from the 68 that they got last season. A playoff berth would be an added bonus; but management is preaching patience, and would be happy if the team improves on the point total from last season.
This offseason, the GM once again, retooled the team with some trades; many of them more or less involved picks going out and players coming in. Some trades helped the team and some not so much. Maybe one of the better moved, did not involve a trade, it was when the team manage to land the promising young defenseman Will Butcher during the FA/Unassigned period.
One thing that we can say about the Ducks is that their defense has improved and got younger. 4 of the top 6 Dman are aged 25 or under, with veterans Matt Niskanen and Kevan Miller adding the experience and will be responsible with helping the young guys.
Up front, the Ducks are still a work in progress, the lineup is a mixture of young and old, but mostly comprise of ‘workhorses’. We cannot say with certainty that the team has a superstar up front, although Brendan Gallagher is maybe the closest thing to it. The team still lacks a true #1 center ever since they traded Ryan Getzlaf to the cup winning Flames at the start of last season. Let’s hope that GM Lefebvre makes that one of his priorities this coming season or in the next offseason.
In goal, the team will hope that both Allen and Fleury have a better year than they did last season. An improved performance from both guys will help the team in attaining their goal of getting more points this season.
Unfortunately, we were not able to get a potential lineup for the start of the season, but here is what the Duck’s roster looks like as of tonight.
