My goal is to be as competitive as possible next season, so I'm really tracking my players pretty hard core this year so I get the best idea of where I will stand.
So far, my best players are doing pretty well overall. (Games played: Goals-Assists-Total, +/-)
Mika (Not a 1st Line C) Zibanejad - 25: 8-13-21, -6 Joe (Never gets old) Thornton - 15: 3-5-8, -1 Valtteri (500k) Filppula - 23: 7-9-16, +9 Brandon Saad - 23: 7-7-14, +2 Alexander Radulov - 15: 8-12-20, +6 Ilya (Where is my ice time) Kovalchuk - 24: 5-9-14, -13 Brady Tkachuk - 14: 9-7-16, +6
John Klingberg - 16: 5-8-13, +0 (hurt but hopefully coming back soon) Rasmus Dahlin - 25: 2-11-13, +5 Brent Seabrook - 25: 3-7-10, -1 Braydon Coburn - 25: 3-5-8, +3
Simeon Varlamov - 16: 2.32, 92.7%
Also Robert Thomas had a rough start with Mike Yeo but now that he's gone, he's been improving under the new Blues interim coach, so thats good news.
Roster is looking solid thus far, Kovalchuk again needs to improve or he's gonna be a real problem for me next year. But I got top 2 lines, top 2 d-pairings, and a #1 goalie for next year, which is a pretty good starting point. Not the highest point totals all around, but certainly solid enough for a decent roster.

Brady Tkachuk is a super stud. Congrats on making the right pick in that spot. The kid is a star in the making, maybe even more so than his bro (who's pretty great himself)

Yeah, I've been really pleased thus far, he's almost doing TOO well....I want him to succeed, but I don't want that first contract to be 5-6m either, a nice comfy 2-3m contract and him getting 100pts NEXT year is what I'd prefer, lol.

Update: I have the WORST goalie luck. Darling is basically done and Varlomov has fallen of the planet as well. Ridiculous how bad my luck is with goalies.
Mika Zibanejad - 39: 11-23-34, -10 (still going fairly strong) Joe Thornton - 33: 6-12-18, +0 (dropped off a bit) Valtteri Filppula - 38: 9-10-19, +7 (really dropped off after a strong start but still okay overall) Brandon Saad - 40: 11-11-22, +0 (just fine) Alexander Radulov - 31: 13-21-34, +8 (validating that 10m contract I gave him) Ilya Kovalchuk - 31: 7-10-17, -15 (ugh, at this rate I might have to drop him as soon as I get him back, what a disappointment) Brady Tkachuk - 30: 10-10-20, +2 (just fine, too many PIMs though, 44 already)
John Klingberg - 23: 5-12-17, +2 (right back at it after returning from injury) Rasmus Dahlin - 40: 4-16-20, +2 (no complaints) Brent Seabrook- 42: 4-11-15, -12 (bad) Braydon Coburn - 38: 3-8-11, +0 (being on such a good team it would be nice if he could pick up a few more apples)
Simeon Varlamov - 25: 2.80, 91.2% (Meh, apparently hurt now as well and losing starts to his backup, hard to say its his fault as nobody is really holding down that net, but he's taking the blame)
Much less optimistic about next season :/

Final Update before end of season: Games: Goals - Assists - Total Points -/+
Mika Zibanejad - 59: 26-32-58 -7 (Boy oh Boy it looks like I got a #1C for next year, glad I didn't trade him early in the year when I was getting hounded). Joe Thornton - 51: 13-21-34, +6 (Jumbo Joe looking solid for a 2nd line role for me) Valtteri Filppula - 57: 12-11-23, +14 (Should be fine for 3rd/4th line C role) Robert Thomas: 47: 5-15-20 -2 (Another rookie, first time on this list, should be okay for limited role minutes, good depth right now)
Brandon Saad - 59: 21-16-37, -3 (Remaining pretty consistent, nice to see him break 20 goals) Alexander Radulov - 49: 15-31-46, +11 (Need more goals outta Rads, he's been ice cold for goals for a month) Ilya Kovalchuk - 49: 13-15-28, -18 (Another ugh. Might still be worth having around with his bad contract, I dunno yet) Brady Tkachuk - 48: 13-17-30, +0 (Looks good to me, nice affordable first contract with those stats)
John Klingberg - 41: 7-21-28, +2 (Need more, but fine I guess) Rasmus Dahlin - 59: 6-26-32, +1 (Decent rookie year, I like the idea of affordable starting contacts!) Brent Seabrook- 58: 5-18-15, -7 (Small improvement from last check-in) Braydon Coburn - 55: 3-12-15, +7 (small improvement, mostly in +/-)
Simeon Varlamov - 40: 2.79, 91.1% (Pretty much the same as before, should be good enough to be a solid JGHL starter I think, has been very good lately in the NHL, might have a strong finish)
I certainly have a good chance at a Calder Trophy next year, 3 rookies that'll all see good playing time with good line-mates.
Looking like:
1st: Saad - Zibanejad - Radulov 2nd: Kovalchuk - Thornton - Tkachuk 3rd: Vesey - Filppula - Cousins (maybe)
If the LW/RW works out how I'd like it too.

Can definitely see the Calder being in Chicago next season. I expected Klingberg to have more points, did he get hurt?

I love these type of posts. Affordable rookie deals are so key, nothing worse than a guy getting 4-5 mil out of the gate and then having a sophomore slump. Dahlin and Tkachuk should both be under 3 so that's good, and they should be ripe in year 2/3. Ziba is a stud for sure.

End of Year Update!
Mika Zibanejad - 82: 30-44-74, -12 (30 goals! Better season than I could have ever hoped for, so very very glad I didn't move him as some were trying to get me to do, lol) Joe Thornton - 73: 16-35-51, +8 (Not bad for 39 year old Jumbo Joe, very worth that contract, should be solid 2nd line C for me) Valtteri Filppula - 72: 17-14-31, +19 (Should be a great 3rd line C, +19 plus PK time, hopefully finds a solid DF rating) Robert Thomas - 70: 9-24-33, -2 (Solid rookie season for a guy that played mostly 3rd and 4th line minutes, should be a perfect depth C for me, can't wait for his ice time to improve on STL in the coming years).
Alexander Radulov - 70: 29-43-72, +22 (Well, I asked for a few goals and Rads decided to deliver. Best 10m I ever spent) Brady Tkachuk - 71: 22-23-45, -10 (45 point rookie season on the worst team in the league, the future is gonna be bright for Brady, still happy with my 3rd overall pick!) Brandon Saad - 80: 23-24-47, -9 (Well, it was better than last year. Gonna be a fight between Brandon and Brady for who gets 1st line LW) Jimmy Vesey - 81: 17-18-35, -6 (Late season acquisition, 35 points is his best season to date, he was given a chance to play with Mika on the rangers 1st line late in the year, could make a bigger impact next season) Ilya Kovalchuk - 64: 16-18-34, -26 (Ugh, the low point of the year, I don't think anyone expected THIS much a of a stinker year, given that his contact is 5.4m for 2 years, there is a HUGE chance I drop him as soon as drops open, will of course take a final look at his ratings, as with 64 games there might be a miracle in there, but right now is looking like a total bust that I gotta cut loose)
John Klingberg - 64: 10-35-45, +6 (Injury hurt his season totals, but his on-pace is just as good as usual, hopefully the pro-rate keeps him strong) Rasmus Dahlin - 82: 9-35-44, -13 (That -13 hurts a bit, but 44 points for a rookie 18 y/o d-man is fantastic) Brent Seabrook - 78: 5-23-28, -6 (basically on par with last season, still a serviceable d-man) Jordie Benn - 81: 5-17-22, +15 (Record point totals for Jordie, hoping for some solid overall ratings, especially on the DF side of things, should be better at least, 23rd overall in SH/TOI) Braydon Coburn - 74: 4-19-23, +4 (5-6 man, serviable, more points than Braydon's had in a few years) Zach Bogosian - 65: 3-16-19, -5 (His points aren't good, but he's playing a lot of PK time, hoping for some decent DF outta him mostly, 27th overall in SH/TOI) John Moore - 61: 4-9-13, +0 (Played mostly as a #7 guy for the Bruins, probably will be doing much of the same for me)
Simeon Varlamov - 49: 2.87, 90.9% (Decent but below what I was hoping to get out of him, he's a hard worker so I think he'll definitely be back, but a bit of a rough year)
Looking for help in goal and need to secure an additional scoring winger I think, but this team could make an impact next year, I don't think its cup ready yet, given how stacked the good teams are, but it should at least be pretty damn competitive.

Dahlin Don't pout, Barrie had a career year and Kopitar is still worth his 5m for his last contact year, just not as good as this year.
