Don't you guys remember the Russian prospect that had a heart attack and died on the ice, a few years ago? Comp was given to the GM who drafted him.

Don't you guys remember the Russian prospect that had a heart attack and died on the ice, a few years ago? Comp was given to the GM who drafted him. It was Alexei Cherepanov. Drafted by Phoenix, traded to Philly, then traded to Anaheim. Anaheim was given a compensatory pick between #42 and #43 in the 2009 draft, I have no idea how that spot was determined. Cherepanov was also a 17th overall NHL pick, taken 7th in our league. No offense to him, but Cave wasn't really going to have anything special of an NHL career

If it can be done, I'd be ok with a late rnd pick as compensation for Caver.

I ranked him as a 3rd rnder if I recall correctly, somewhere around 99 I thought, though he went undrafted (got later signed as undrafted FA). Was glad to see him get signed; he was good enough in his 1st yr draft eligible to be drafted. RIP Caver

EDIT: His death was sad and unfortunate, I'm not an asshole...lol

If it can be done, I'd be ok with a late rnd pick as compensation for Caver. Not to be insensitive, but is there any difference between a career-ending or career-changing injury and a player dying in terms of compensation? I don't really see why compensation would be warranted.

I am not going to complain either way we go and don't want to sound insensitive after the guy just passed but I see a pretty big difference in compensation for a 1st round pick that died within 2 years of the draft and a 25 year old fringe NHLer.
I certainly feel awful for Cave and his family and don't want to seem like I am diminishing his passing but I don't see a need for compensation either.

I'm good with whatever as well. I wasn't feeling it was "necessary" or warranted really, but a potential cool thing to do (I mean WhatTF is a 5th rnd pick anyway), especially in these strange times. Guess I'm a little extra sensitive these working the frontlines in healthcare... (An active hockey player's death is pretty rare, especially one in ear;y/mid-20s, so not like we do it very often anyway) But again, already seems like majority feel otherwise, so all good.. * * * Our hospital, being behind the times as it is, finally on board with EVERYONE (patients, clinicians alike0 wearing masks. I wanted it, but have to admit, it adds to the dystopian feel of these times...
Stay safe, lads.

Dang it!!!! Now those buggers forgot to come out for the 2nd and 3rd... Base on that, it would be safe to say that the Ducks players will not show up for their next game. Why can't they do that when I actually have my own 1st pick? Oh well, St Louis has another shot at first OV now, with my pick

Helluva win in a wild west shootout, Jake!
Strange times these be - I swear I submitted lines with Vasilevskiy as starter, but looks like his evil twin VASELINEvsky showed up with the pucks sliding right off him to the back of the net ; )

I am not sure there is a better representation of my team than this goal from the other night:
11. New York Islanders , Jon Merrill 8 (Jamie Oleksiak 22) at 3:37 (PP)
Jon Merrill and Jamie Olesiak both on the PP!!! And forced to create the goal on their own as the other guys are no help! And Jon Merrill with 8 goals this year! I doubt he has 8 goals in his whole NHL career and he has played at least 5 NHL seasons.
