UPDATE
Just mentioned on TSN, according to Insider Dreger, there is apparently lots of interest from other NHL teams for DeAngelo, and a trade could happen within the next few days.
Good lord, IO cannot imagine that some GM would want this guy in their dressing room.

Oof forgot about that stuff in juniors, and none of that other new stuff sounds good. Ya this guy seems like a classic POS.

Darryl F*cking Sutter.
I'm flabergasted...
Thought we needed a coaching change, but holy $h!t, this should be interesting and entertaining, if nothing else...

Got to say, I was surprised to see the change as well and to see Sutter as the next coach left me speechless
I wonder how the players are going to respond to the old school coach

It's amazing to me that the same 30-40 guys get rotated around from team to team with head coaching gigs. Flames have a good team but I'm sure people aren't excited about Sutter being the HC there

I can't think of the last time I was this happy hearing Flames news. The roster is still a major problem but I trust Daryl to win with 23 GM's from here if that is what he was given. Its an amazing upgrade to go from Geoff Ward to Daryl Sutter.

2nd best GM we ever had.
People are way to negative about his GM time, he still has as much impact on the current team than Feaster (who is worst GM in history of NHL) on this current team.

As someone who doesn't really follow Flames closely, what does he bring that the Flames have been missing?

I agree Feaster was horrible. Every time the Flames made a trade I knew automatically the Flames would lose. Half the time he gave an interview he would say something Oiler-territory embarrassing too. Sutter was pretty much only good at trading, and then he lost it in his last year. His free agency signings were pretty mediocre. His drafting was atrocious. I know I’m in a minority right now with Flames fans but I like Treliving. I trust him to make trades and the Flames have been drafting well. His free agency signs have admittedly been terrible though.

As someone who doesn't really follow Flames closely, what does he bring that the Flames have been missing? He has been the JGHL sharks coach for most of JGHL history, that should say it all! (There was a brief time when Sharks alumni Yzerman decided to coach for a year or two, and during that time Darryl coached the Makos).

As someone who doesn't really follow Flames closely, what does he bring that the Flames have been missing? I think the main thing he will bring in is accountability. I know peopke say that all the time and I am sure GG, Ward and Peters all said tgey would bring it but Sutter has shown he can do it. This group, the core especially, has always had questions about their compete and willingness to do the hard things. They seem way to willing to take the easy way. I think they have been able to tune out GG and Ward and tuned out peters in his 2nd year as well or more do after they saw how tough it was against the Avs in the play-offs. They won’t becc by able to get away with that with Sutter. It also will put to rest any question whether the team is good enough or if it is coaching. If this doesn’t work it’s easier to see the need to blow it up. I am not sure how well this would be known outside of Calgary but Sutter is basically a cult hero here in Calgary. Yes his GM time wasn’t greet but as a coach he is revered here. The Sutter family is a very well regarded in tge province to begin with and Sutter and the 04 team are as beloved as any team that hasn’t won the Cup could be. Since he left almost every time there has been struggles in Calgary people will say tge answer is to bring Sutter back as coach. I can not overestimate his reputation, as a coach, in Calgary. He is loved. There is more that I could go on about that but he is not a normal coach here or another retread he brings way more hope and excitement (deserved or not) than anyone else could.
