I’ll be honest I thought it was a fairly big steal for Montreal but I don’t blame you Mike. You put your players out there for a while and simply accepted the best offer. What I do blame is the complete lack of a market because there’s 10+ dormant teams and roughly 5 teams that actually want to compete. Oh this again? Yea this again. Do I have to pull up Tampa’s championship prediction post from the beginning of the season? I mean, usually making a trade at the deadline helps someone win, no the other way around. Our issue is we have literally 7-8 active gms/26. Until that changes we won’t reach our potential.

I know I "bothered" a lot of teams when inquiring about trades and all got back to me. I'm not sure myself how this league would go about creating more excitement or interest. I checked back , from the start of sept, 12 teams were involved in trades, and I'm pretty sure most that didn't are happy with their squad either playoff bound, or draft bound.

Is the deadline extended? I looked at the schedule and thought it was on Wednesday. Living in Hawaii messes with my sense of time Yeah I bet, 11AM is rough on you definitely! But I will trade places with you!

Indeed no complaints out here !!
Personally I thought the Marchand, Kopitar, Ellis trade was worse than the Pens one.

Im sure we arent building a conducive forum to trade when people take a shot at your deal because they think you should have got more or given less. None of those deals are a GM thinking he has made his team worse. It clearly solved a problem or weakness they had be it youth or cap room or more picks. Sure after seeing a couple of them I wish i had made an offer too but I didnt swing. Dont get me wrong I dont see a problem saying wow i thought those guys would go for more but the market is the market. There have been trades in this league I personally thought were one sided that after a year or two seem to be the opposite. Live and let live, share your opinion and even say wow I thought you could get more but have some faith that everyone is trying to make their team what "they" want. Hell even the Pros mess it up occasionally

Here here Bobby. I'm honestly always torn between keeping my mouth shut to not offend anyone and openly discussing a trade because im an opinionated asshole. More often it tends to lean to the latter, but honestly that's ok imo. As long as we're not resorting to personal attacks we should be able to discuss anything hockey related lol

Definitely true… we can comment on the trade in terms of value of the players involved, but none of us are really familiar with the directions of the teams involved. And I also can’t help spouting off my glorious opinions. But ya Gaudreau > Keller

Gavin raises some interesting points, or maybe just an overall interesting point I am not sure which, LOL.
Of course because it is an online league there are going to be some aspects that are not the same as the NHL but the ability to maintain teams is so "easy". not sure that saying it is easy is fair to the GMs who have done a good job of keeping their teams at the top, is something that obviously doesn't happen in the NHL.
Likewise the amount of teams that are tanking, and not just tanking but tanking at a level that never happens at the NHL level, is crazy as well. I am obviously part of this so not a criticism or complaint just a reality of the league. I mean my team has zero players that would make most of the teams in the league and there are 3 teams "worse" than mine. That is kind of crazy.
I am fine with the fact that my team will never be competitive in the JGHL. Outside of hitting on 5 guys who play way above their expectations there is no path for my team to compete. I like the league and the guys in it so I am fine with that. And I have zero solutions to fix the issue in the league.
I am getting to the rambling point and I don't want this to sound like criticism for the league because I love it and like I said I have no solutions. I am not involved in other similar leagues so maybe this is just par for the course for these types of leagues but I agree with Gavin it is very tough for anyone outside of the top teams to improve and outside of the top 4-5 almost pointless to even try.

One idea I really have grown to like personally to "limit trading effectiveness" would be to limit tradable draft picks to the current draft year only. This would reduce the amount of "junk" you are able to sling around to snag high value players, taking the existing total of 25 tradable picks to 5 instead. The turn-over point would be when the ratings update. I think its still quite fair, helps with retiring GMs and replacing them (who wants to take over a team with no picks for the next 5 years?!) and increases the need have a pool of actual player prospects to trade. It also reduces some of the guesswork in these trades in terms of how "fair" they are. Can anyone tell me what the value of a 3rd round pick in 2024 is? Its impossible to really know. If they are same year only, you can at least look at the CURRENT roster of the team you are engaged with to get some idea of where that pick may actually fall.
I don't want to shut down the ability to trade, but taking away a bit of the power from trading and making it harder on that "play style" I think would improve overall league health and competitiveness, since only 25% of the league seems to benefit from the current system while the other 75% are either tanking or standing pat because it feels difficult to actually compete.
Something to chew on anyway, I'm sure most of you will hate it, lol.

I like the limit on draft picks to the upcoming draft only. It does prevent someone from selling someone else's future after they bail on the team. Probaly increases the value of prospect in your pool as well.

Definitely open to discussing some rule changes this off season. It's almost 2022 let's spice things up in the JG. Who's down for each team getting 1 mid season rerate? Talk about a wild card that can make a good team great or even just pump more players into the trade market.
It also makes rookies and prospects 10x more valuable if they can arrive a year earlier than they usually would. Think someone like Lafreniere, or a draft pick that makes the team out of camp. I know it would be extra work for Jake though so he'd have to chime in on its feasibility.
