Heading into the 9th season under current management the Rangers continue to be awkwardly competitive as they attempt to rebuild.
This off-season saw the Rangers move on from veterans like Jack Johnson, Alex Steen and Patrick Marleau. While still possessing productive ratings the cap hits were hard to justify.
Up front the Rangers made the difficult decision of sending top center Phillip Danualt to Montreal for some scoring help in Mike Hoffman.
In free agency the Rangers went out and acquired big names in Malkin and Oshie to round out a top 6 that already included names like Meier and Lafallo.
Jason Spezza and Justin Williams will be kicking it on the 4th if Williams can stay healthy with his mid 50’s DU rating.
The maturation of a young defense is what allowed the Rangers to chase the big names up front. Adam Fox will be relied upon heavily in his rookie season to carry the offense on the back end, Fox is gonna be a beauty of a workhorse going forward. Weegar and Soucy are also taking the next step of picking up heavier minutes for the Rangers, they also look to be part of the Rangers top 4 for years to come. Veterans Stralman, Larsson and Hjalmarsson will round out the top 6.
Linus Ullmark and Braden Holtby will be playing 1A, 1B this season.
Rangers look to be competitive again through a rebuild with an extremely average mid pick finish again.
