Well having him is better than having Andrew shaw as your #1 centre Can't argue with that.

Although the price was relatively high, I don't think you can call this a bad trade for either side. I looked it up and only 23 centres have more points than Nugent-Hopkins' 140 since the start of the 2013-2014 season. That makes him a number one centre in this league and he's only 22. Worse case scenario, he turns into a really good #2 centre who scores 60-70 points a season. Not a lot of those guys around. I'm not sure Spooner or Milano have the same ceiling. Of course Monty could get lucky with the picks and make this a big win for him, but we are talking about picks in the 20's and 30's, not in the top 10, so there are no sure things. So I think the Wings got a good piece to build around and the Habs got a punch of young assets that Shawn hopes will play with Auston Matthews someday .

I think if they let nug stay down a couple years it would have really benefited him. I know he was a stud in his first year, but I can't imagine that playing on the worst defensive team in the NHL fit his first three years is setting him up for success. I can't think of a player that was ruined because he was left down for an extra year or two, but looks out players development curves get skewed because of it.
I loved the idea of having barkov and nug as my 1 2 punch for the next 10 years, but couldn't justify building onto a highly rated player with risk. I've still got another year of yeah of trash before I'll get better, so I'm hoping for development from milano and a solid selection in the late teens.

Hoppy also played with a jacked-up shoulder that needed surgery. He's good, but smallish. Tough as a centre in the Pacific. Seems to be getting better at faceoffs, and his shot just under the blocker and over the pad is pinpoint. He's no Dr. Drai, and I think he's going to be bumped to third line c.

It was expensive, but needed. I needed a 60+ point C that can anchor the roster. Projections for next season look promising.

I've come to the conclusion that having two $5.5 million dollar #1 centres on the roster was a luxury I couldn't afford. Whether I got good value will depend on Bjugstad's development and what I am able to get with the picks. I think Gavin is getting a great player.

It's a very sane price to pay for Kopi, so I like this deal for Gavin. It will definitely depend on whether Bjugstad can turn it around, so far he's looked weak even in the midst of Panthers going god mode. But Joe generally knows what he's doing, so good deal.

That could be an overstatement. I could just be bored.

Is this the calm before the storm or have we seen the bulk of the action?

Lot of talks going on, hard to say how many triggers will be pulled. I myself involved in talks with 2 different Gm's.
