If you trade the worlds best player, you should set your sights higher than honest to goodness NHLers! I think anyone without Maple Leafs glasses on could tell Reimer and Gardiner weren't much to write home about.

I can assure you Kevin was doing backflips and singing koombaya when it was put through. Kev of all people I would expect you to know just how bad Gardiner and Reimer are as hockey players. lol... Was it a good deal for me? Yes. I'm always of the mind that when you get the best player in a deal let alone the best player in the league, you're doing something right. Now, as for the pieces that went back.. Turris was on the up and rise.. Vlasic was a very very valuable defenseman to me and i did think that Stewart was going to be the power forward that everyone thought he could be. Now Eug, you ask me about Gardiner and Reimer.. here's my assessment. Reimer I've always liked because he's a battler. Does his glove suck? yes, has he ever met a rebound he could control? No.. but i did think he was young enough that if he got into the right situation, he could turn his game around. In my opinion, Jake Gardiner is a tremendous skater but has no business playing defense and if I was Babcock I'd put him at left wing so fast, it's nobody's business. But I really do think Corey had the intention of getting more depth (quantity) as opposed to quality and I don't think anyone could fault him for that. Just because he didn't do a "traditional" deal of rebuilding and getting first round picks and prospects back, didnt mean he tried to give Crosby away. I really think he tried to get the most depth back that he could because he didn't want to rebuild. Now, was I happy that I didn't have to put a Duchene, Kessel or a Fowler back in the deal? Yes. Absolutely. So essentially what you're saying is it was a horrible deal and Reimer and Gardiner should be in AHL, gotcha

I think we could use a drink...good thing I'm heading to wine country tomorrow! I'll have a sample gulp for each of ya! Great to see the passion, but sometimes it boils over. Let's take a bit of a step back and breather, lads. Keep your stick on the ice and let's keep it clean (well a few digs when the refs lookin' the other way are alright). I've got just the therapy for all: Permission granted to come aboard and mock my first mock for the 2016 NHL Draft (and bring some good hockey karma upon yourself by sharing) - link to first rankings contained within as well: Link: thehockeywriters.com/2016-nhl-mock-draft-offseason-edition/

I didn't really think it was a big deal Wow Chris, didn't know Auston Mathews put up 4 more points in as many GP as Jack Eichel did in the USHL before his draft year.

I think if Reims gets a fresh start somewhere else, he could battle to be a starter. And I do think that Gardiner will bounce back with the right coaching... again, you move Gardiner to the wing and I think he'd be dangerous with his skating and playmaking abilities. That's just my take on it though.

I've seen him single handedly blow many games for us, and could not wait until he was shipped out. Instead they decided to give him a new deal. If it quacks like a plug, walks like a plug, it's probably a plug.

lol All I'm saying is 24 is wayy too young to give up on a guy that's shown the skating and playmaking abilities that he has.. and it's about putting guys in the best situations possible to succeed and I dont think the Leafs have done that thus far. Has Jake helped himself out? No... but to give up on a guy so young.. it's a terrible mistake.

Pacioretty - Tavares - Voracek Landeskog - Stamkos - Wheeler Gaudreau - Stepan - Bouma McLeod-Noesen-Jones
Johnson-Wideman Suter-Stralman Goligoski-Polak
Niemi
vs.
Parise - Getzlaf - Oshie Cammalleri - Kopitar - Okposo Dubinsky - Scheifle - Nyquist Roussel-Horvat-Neiderreiter
Carlson-GIordano Russel-Niskanen Martinez-Sekera
Varlamov Elliot
Pretty close, don't go giving it away too easily! Joe's big advantage is he actually has prospects to trade away though.
